Why You’ll Love Cheeseburger Pizza

  • This easy cheeseburger pizza recipe is a fun twist on pizza night. It tastes like a fast-food burger but in the shape of a pizza.
  • Easy to make with shortcuts. Use pre-made pizza crust to speed up the process.
  • No fancy kitchen tools are needed. Sure, a pizza stone will always work, but you can also make it on a cookie sheet.
  • Familiar flavors. This hamburger pizza is filled with your favorite burger toppings.
  • This is a great idea for people who don’t like the taste of pizza. If you (or someone you know) don’t like tomato or pizza sauce, make this. The special sauce tastes so different from the regular pizza flavors.

Here’s a bit more information about what you’ll need before you begin making the cheeseburger pizza.

    • Pillsbury Pizza Crust – When using a pre-made crust, you don’t need to roll the dough with a rolling pin, which saves time.
    • Sweet Onion – A red onion will have a powerful aroma, so I suggest using a sweet yellow or white onion.
    • Garlic Cloves – Fresh garlic tastes so much better than garlic powder.
    • Lean Ground Beef – This is the main source of protein for the pizza and what makes it taste like a cheeseburger.
    • Dried Oregano – This adds classic Italian flavors to the pizza.
    • Tomato – The fresh tomato is a classic hamburger topping that will taste delicious on the pizza.
    • Ketchup – You’ll use this as the sauce instead of pizza sauce.
    • Mozzarella Cheese – Use your favorite type of cheese, but mozzarella melts so well.
    • Cheddar Cheese – This makes it look and taste like a cheeseburger.

    How to Make Cheeseburger Pizza

    • Step One: Cook the pizza crust according to the package directions. I used Pillsbury Pizza Crust. I greased a pizza pan and spread the dough to fit. Then, I baked it for 8 minutes in a 400°F oven.
    • Step Two: In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook ground beef, onions, garlic, and oregano until the beef is completely cooked and the onions are softened (about 10 minutes or so). Set aside.

    • Step Three: Remove your pizza crust from the oven and spread ketchup evenly over the crust, leaving about a ½ inch gap around the edges. Spread ground beef mixture over the sauce. Top with chopped tomatoes and cheese.
    • Step Four: Bake an additional 9 to 11 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.

    Equipment Needed

If you want the best results when making a homemade cheeseburger pizza, I suggest grabbing a few key pieces of equipment.

What to Serve with Cheeseburger Pizza

Since this is basically a cheeseburger in a pizza form, you can serve it with your favorite foods. Try it with any of the following recipes on the side.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Instead of ground beef, try substituting ground chicken or turkey.
    • Make a bacon cheeseburger pizza. Top it with some crispy bacon.
    • Add some provolone cheese on top.
    • Make it with a cauliflower crust. This can easily become a low-carb recipe.
    • Instead of ketchup, use Thousand Island dressing. This will make it taste like a Big Mac or use Big Mac Sauce.

    Storage Instructions

Store the leftover cheeseburger pizza in the fridge, covered in an airtight container, for up to 3 days.

    Cheeseburger Pizza Tips and Tricks

    • Use plenty of cheddar cheese. All the extra cheese is what makes it taste so delicious.
    • Experiment with different sauces. Try it with fry sauce or make your own sauce.
    • Season the ground beef. While it’s browning, add some garlic and onion powder or a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This will amp up the flavor just a bit.

    Can I Make Ahead?

This burger pizza is best when served fresh, but like any pizza, it is best when served warm. Since it is a quick prep, you could cook the meat ahead of time, assemble the pizza, and bake it later.

If you pre-cook your hamburger meat beforehand, that will shave off some cooking time.

    Topping Ideas

You can add your favorite cheeseburger toppings if you would like. Here are some ideas:

    • Pickle Slices (preferably dill pickles)
    • Raw Onion
    • Bacon
    • Sesame Seeds
    • Chopped Green Bell Pepper

Be creative and use your favorite cheeseburger pizza toppings. You could even use cream cheese instead of mozzarella cheese (or combine them). To make a  Big Mac Pizza, use Thousand Island dressing or a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise.

What Type of Crust to Use for this Cheeseburger Pizza Recipe?

To get dinner on the table quicker, I used a refrigerated pizza crust. If you have time or have a preference for a homemade crust, you could do that too.

Best Way To Reheat Leftover Pizza

You can toss in the microwave for a quick reheat. Or if you want you can warm up in a skillet on low heat, and allow it to warm the pizza up slowly.

You can also preheat the oven to 325 degrees F, and then toss your pizza in on a cookie sheet to warm up for a few minutes.

I have found the skillet or oven method allows you to have a fresher and crisper crust vs the microwave. The microwave can kind of makes the crust tastes rubbery on the texture.

    FAQ

Can I Use Ground Turkey to Replace Ground Beef?

Of course. If you want to use ground turkey, pork, or chicken, go ahead. I love a good ground beef pairing, but you can easily swap. Just cook the meat until it is ground up and cooked through, then assemble the pizza as directed in the recipe card below.

What Sauce Do You Use for Cheeseburger Pizza?

So, instead of a classic pizza sauce, you will reach for a ketchup bottle. It will give you that classic burger taste and pair well with the ketchup.
If you are a huge fan of mustard, you could even drizzle it lightly to give it that ketchup-mustard pairing.

How many servings does this make?

This recipe makes about six servings.
