    Variations and Substitutions

    • Protein Choices: Experiment with different cuts of beef like sirloin or skirt steak, or try chicken breasts or thighs for a unique twist.
    • Vegetarian Option: Omit the meat and include a variety of vegetables such as mushrooms, zucchini, or eggplant. Tofu or seitan can also be used as meat substitutes. These easy steak fajitas can be made vegetarian and still taste great.
    • Spice Level: Adjust the spice level by choosing a milder or spicier Rotel variety. Control the heat by modifying the amount of fajita seasoning to suit your taste. You can always add chili flakes,
    • Tortilla Options: You can use other tortillas instead of flour tortillas. Whole wheat tortillas, corn tortillas, or flavored wraps all work well for this recipe. For a low-carb option, consider using lettuce wraps or serving the mixture over cauliflower rice. Use the tortillas of your choice to create a delicious meal.

    Storage Instructions

If you have leftovers of these crockpot steak fajitas, they can easily be stored for later consumption. Place the fajita mixture into an airtight container once it has cooled. It can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

    Can I Freeze?

Absolutely. Place your cooked and cooled fajita mixture into a freezer bag. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Searing the Meat: For an extra depth of flavor, consider searing the steak in a hot skillet before placing it in the slow cooker. Searing your meat helps lock in juices, resulting in a more tender and flavorful meat.
    • Customize Seasoning: Adjust the fajita seasoning according to your taste preferences. You can make your own with cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of cayenne for some heat.
    • Fresh Ingredients: For the best results, use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Crisp and colorful bell peppers, ripe onions, and a good cut of steak will contribute to the dish’s overall freshness and flavor.
    • Toppings at Serving: Consider setting up a toppings bar when serving. This allows everyone to customize their fajitas with their favorite toppings. The best part is that everyone will get the flavor profile they prefer by adding unique toppings to their meal.
    • Slow Cooker Liners: To make cleanup easier, use slow cooker liners. These disposable liners can be placed inside the slow cooker before adding ingredients. It’s the perfect way to make this recipe easier to clean after cooking.
    • Warm Tortillas: Heat the tortillas before serving. You can warm them in a dry skillet, microwave, or oven for a short time. Warm tortillas are more pliable and easier to work with, making the fajitas easier to eat.
    • Meal Prep Friendly: This recipe is excellent for meal prep. Prepare the ingredients and store them in the refrigerator until you cook. It’s a convenient option for busy days.
    • Double the Batch: Consider doubling the batch if you have a larger slow cooker or anticipate leftovers. This way, you’ll have extra for future meals or to freeze for meal prep.
