Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken is creamy delicious comfort food. Tender chicken is slow cooked in a creamy base to make this dish a memorable meal for your family.
Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken
Get ready for some comfort food! It’s November which means, to me, casseroles, slow cookers, soups and stews. I want hearty food to fill my belly and this Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken does exactly that!
What’s great about this recipe is that you can whip it up in the morning before work. It literally takes about 5 minutes of prep work. A little measuring here, a little sprinkling there…easy peasy. When you get home from work, you do the final step of adding in the cream cheese and dinner is ready in 1 hour.
My fiancé, Matty, loved this recipe and ate a huge bowl. I think he took half the crockpot! Well, maybe not that much, but it was a healthy serving. His parents stopped in for a quick visit and I sent them home with a container to try for dinner. They always ask what I’m making for dinner because they love to try new recipes.
Matty said it reminded him a bit of this creamed salmon on toast that his mom used to make. My mom made it too, but added peas (yuck) so I didn’t care for the recipe too much. I told him to go make some toast and try the Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken on it.

Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken Ingredients
The star of this recipe is my protein choice: Canadian chicken!
Did you know that Canadian chicken is grain-fed, free of added hormones and steroids and raised in Canada according to strict, nationally-set food safety and animal care standards? And it’s just plain delicious! Healthy, too.
Look for the “Raised by a Canadian Farmer” mark on the packages of chicken you buy at the grocery. I’ve seen them on the packages at my local Walmart. It was even advertised in their flyer recently too!
For spices, you’ll need Italian seasoning, celery seed, onion powder, salt, pepper and garlic cloves.
The creaminess comes from a combination of Cream of Mushroom soup and cream cheese.
I also added some fresh chives to give it a little oomph. You could leave them off though if you aren’t a fan.
How to Make Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken
I used my 6-quart slow cooker for this recipe. The first step is to place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker. You could also use boneless chicken thighs if you prefer dark meat.
In a small bowl, mix together Italian seasoning, celery seed, onion powder, salt, pepper and garlic cloves. Sprinkle this mixture evenly on top of the chicken.
Pour the cans of Cream of Mushroom soup on top of the seasoned chicken. You don’t need to add water to the cans. Just the soup is all you’ll need.
Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours. You can use a meat thermometer to check if it’s completely cooked if you like.
At the 8 hour mark, shred the chicken with two forks. It should be super tender and fall apart really easily. Add in cream cheese and cover again. Cook on HIGH for 1 hour.
Stir again to incorporate the melted cream cheese. You can sprinkle chives on top before you serve.

This is the best recipe I have found for chicken in the slow cooker. And the tip for using your stand mixer to shred it is so good! It worked perfectly. All of your tips and suggestions are great, thank you for sharing.

About how many sandwiches would you get out of this? Can I double it with the same results?
Stacie Vaughan says
You should be able to get about 6 good sized sandwiches. Yes, you can double the recipe. Just make sure you have a big enough slow cooker.
