This simple recipe uses just a few ingredients that are easy to find in the grocery store. You probably have them in your pantry. Here is what you’ll need.

    For The Rolls:

    • Whole Milk: Use full-fat milk to get the fluffiest rolls.
    • Active Dry Yeast: This makes the rolls light and airy.
    • Unsalted Butter: For the best taste, use unsalted butter.
    • Honey: This sweetens the rolls naturally.
    • Fine Sea Salt: This enhances all the flavors of the tasty rolls.
    • Egg: This emulsifies all the ingredients, helping them mix perfectly.
    • All-Purpose Flour: If you are gluten-free, you can use gluten-free all-purpose flour.
    • Salted Butter: This adds flavor to the top of the rolls after baking.

    For the Cinnamon Butter:

    • Salted Butter: Salted butter brings out the sugar’s sweetness and the cinnamon’s spice.
    • Powdered Sugar: This makes the butter extra fluffy.
    • Honey: You only need a little bit to sweeten the butter.
    • Ground Cinnamon: This adds a bit of spice to the butter.

How to Make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls

    • Step One: Add the milk to a microwave-safe container. Microwave in 15-second intervals until the milk reaches 115-120°F. Do not excess 120°F. Add the yeast and stir. Wait 5 minutes to allow the yeast to bloom.

    • Step Two: Add the thinly sliced unsalted butter, honey, and salt to a large bowl. Pour in the milk mixture and whisk to combine. The butter will not melt all the way.
    • Step Three: Add the egg and whisk to combine.
    • Step Four: Add the flour and stir it with a wooden spoon or something similar. The dough will be sticky.

    • Step Five: Add a generous amount of flour to a clean work surface and place the dough on the flour. Dust the top with flour and knead it for a few minutes by hand until a smooth dough forms. You may need to keep adding flour because the dough is sticky. It’s supposed to be, and why the rolls are so soft.
    • Step Six: Spray a large bowl lightly with cooking spray. Add the dough to the bowl and roll it around so it is coated in the spray. Cover with plastic wrap and place it in a warm, dry place. Allow it to rise to double the size for 60-90 minutes.

    • Step Seven: Punch down the dough so a lot of the air can escape. On a clean work surface, dust with flour and place the dough on top of the flour. Dust the top lightly and roll it into a rough, ½-inch thick rectangle. Using a pizza cutter, cut off the uneven edges.
    • Step Eight: Cut the dough into squares or rectangles. Roll out the dough scrapes and keep cutting and rolling until you have 12 ½-inch thick pieces.
    • Step Nine: Place the dough squares onto a parchment-lined sheet tray. Cover with plastic wrap and allow the rolls to double in size for 60-90 minutes.

    • Step Ten: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top. Immediately brush with the melted butter.
    • Step Eleven: Make the cinnamon butter while the rolls are baking. Place the butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon in a medium-sized bowl. Using an electric hand mixer, whip until smooth.
    • Step Twelve: Allow the rolls to cool slightly and serve warm with the cinnamon butter.

    • Microwave-Safe Bowl – You’ll use this to warm up the milk.
    • Whisk – A whisk mixes and combines the liquid ingredients well.
    • Wooden Spoon – You’ll use a spoon to mix the dry ingredients with the liquid ones.
    • Large Mixing Bowl –  Use a large enough bowl for the dough to have room to rise.
    • Plastic Wrap – Use plastic wrap or a towel, but use something to cover the bread dough so it can rise.
    • Pizza Cutter – A sharp knife can also work; you’ll use it to trim the dough.
    • Rolling Pin: This makes it easier to roll dough into a rectangular shape.
    • Parchment Paper – The rolls can easily stick to a baking sheet, so cover it with parchment paper.
    • Baking Tray – You can use a cookie sheet or any kind of rimmed baking tray.
    • Medium Mixing Bowl – Use a bowl big enough to make the cinnamon butter.
    • Electric Mixer – This will make whipping up the butter much easier.
    • Food Thermometer – You’ll need to check the temperature of the milk so it doesn’t get too hot.

What to Serve with Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls

This is one of my favorite recipes for homemade rolls. They taste perfect with any meal, but here are some of my favorite things to serve with them.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Heat the milk in a small saucepan instead of the microwave. Just make sure to heat it to the perfect temperature.
    • Use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
    • Add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough to give it a bit of spice and flavor.

    Storage Instructions

Keep leftovers at room temperature in a sealed, airtight container for up to 3 days. Keep any leftover cinnamon butter in the fridge for up to 7 days. Allow the butter to come to room temperature before enjoying it again. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls Tips and Tricks

    • Make the rolls as big or small as you like. They can be cut into smaller squares to make 24 pieces instead of 12. Cooking time may vary, so keep an eye on them; they are done when the tops are golden brown.
    • The dough is very sticky; it is okay to keep dusting it with flour while kneading it by hand.
    • Knead your dough on a lightly floured surface. If you forget to add flour to the countertop, the soft dough will stick as you knead it.
    • Remember to grease the bowl’s sides before adding the dough to it. This will prevent it from sticking too much.

    What Are Texas Roadhouse Rolls?

Texas Roadhouse is a popular chain of restaurants that serves steak, potatoes, and more. But this steakhouse is known for its large, fluffy rolls and addicting cinnamon honey butter. Texas Roadhouse rolls are slightly sweet, with melted butter on top, and incredibly light and fluffy on the inside.

    What Is Scalded Milk?

When you scald the milk, you kill off its proteins. This will make your rolls extra light and fluffy. If you skip this step, your rolls might turn out more like biscuits. To scald the milk, heat it to almost boiling – but not entirely – then turn down the heat and keep warming it until it reaches the perfect temperature.

    Can I Use Instant Yeast?

If you use Instant Yeast instead of Active Yeast, you will use 25% less. That comes to about 1 3/4 teaspoon of instant yeast in your yeast mixture. Then, you should also add the Instant Yeast to your four instead of adding it to the warm milk.

What Is The Best Place For Dough To Rise?

It’s best to keep the rolls in a warm place to rise. My favorite place to put the bowl of bread dough is on top of the stove after I preheat the oven to 325F. Once the oven is preheated, leave it on while the dough rises, and then turn it off after it doubles in size.

How Long Does The Dough For Texas Roadhouse Rolls Need To Rise?

Let the dough rise for about an hour if you want fluffy rolls. Wait to check on them during the first rise until at least an hour has passed.

Can I Make A Whole Wheat Version of Texas Roadhouse Rolls?

Yes, you can make whole-wheat Texas Roadhouse rolls! Just use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose or white flour. All of the other ingredient amounts will stay the same.

    Why Didn’t My Dough Rise?

Yeast needs to bloom, which is why the temperature of the milk is so important. It needs to be warmer than room temperature. If you think your yeast bloomed, maybe the room wasn’t warm enough. You can try to place a baking tray on the bottom rack of the oven and pour boiling water into the tray. Then, put your dough bowl on top of the boiling water and close the oven door.

If your dough still doesn’t rise, try this method next. Open a new package of active dry yeast. Mix it with half a teaspoon of sugar and 1/4 cup of warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes. After it starts to foam, knead it into the dough and place it back in a warm area. It should rise this time.

    FAQ

Can I use warm water instead of milk?

The warm milk is essential for making the rolls rise. I do not recommend trying to use water instead.

Can I use a bread machine to make these delicious rolls?

Yes, you can make them in the bread machine, too. Since each bread machine is different, I suggest following the directions in your user manual, but the ingredients will stay the same. The bread machine takes care of mixing the ingredients, but you might still have to remove it and let the dough rise in a warm place and bake the rolls in the oven.

How many servings does this roll recipe make?

This recipe makes 12 sweet yeast rolls.
