- Bacon Alternatives: Substitute the bacon with another type of protein. Cooked crumbled sausage, ham, or even vegetarian alternatives. They all work well with this recipe.
- Herb Infusions: Add some different herbs and spices to the cheese mixture. This will add a fantastic depth of flavor. Thyme, rosemary, or smoked paprika go very well with this cheesy bacon bread bowl.
- Bread Options: Try using a different type of bread if you desire. Sourdough, whole grain, or gluten-free bread all work well with this dish.
- Spicy Kick: Add diced jalapenos or hot sauce for a spicy kick. If you like it spicy, add some cayenne pepper, too.
- Fresh Herbs: Garnish your cheesy bacon bread bowl with parsley, cilantro, or basil. This will add a fantastic burst of freshness to your dish.
Storage Instructions
In the unlikely event that you have leftovers, you can easily store them. Place the bread bowl in an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can quickly reheat your bread bowl in the oven or air fryer. Keep an eye on it to ensure you don’t burn the bread.
Can I Freeze?
It is not advisable to freeze your cheesy bacon bread bowl. The filling will separate, and the bread will become tough.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Allow your cream cheese and Velveeta to come to room temperature before making your bread bowl. This will ensure a smoother consistency and allow the flavors to blend better.
- Bacon Prep: Cook the bacon until it becomes crispy before adding it to your warm bacon cheese dip. The crisp bite of the bacon will add a fun textural element to your dish. You can even make extra bacon to add to the top of the bread. Using lots of crispy bacon will create an indulgent dish.
- Bread Selection: Choose a high-quality bread for the best results. You want it to be fresh so that the flavors and textures are just right.
- Hollowing the Bread: When scooping out the center of the bread, make sure that you leave a sturdy border. If you take out too much, your bread bowl will not hold its shape during baking.
- Dipping Breadsticks: If you plan on using the inner part of the bread bowl as dippers, brush them with olive oil and Italian seasoning. Remember, though, that they will burn quickly, so it’s best to keep an eye on them.
- Toppings: Mix your bread bowl with fresh green onions, parsley, and bacon bits. Or even a dollop of sour cream. No matter what you choose to enhance the flavor of this dish, it is sure to be one of the best dips you have ever tried.
