Talk about decadence! The creamy brie cheese topped with zesty cranberry chutney is the thing dreams are made of. And the delicious toppings are easy to find at your local grocery store.

    For Brie:

    • Wheel of brie: This is easy to find in the exotic cheese section of the grocery store.
    • Puff pastry: Save yourself time and use store-bought puff pastry; this flaky pastry is the perfect base for baked soft cheese
    • Walnuts: These add essential saltiness to the savory cheese.
    • Baguette: Add the cheese and chutney to the bread or crackers.

    For Cranberry Chutney:

    • Orange juice: Use an orange juice that doesn’t contain pulp.
    • Honey: This sweetens the chutney while keeping it smooth.
    • Cranberries: Use dried cranberries for the best texture.
    • Apple slices: It’s best to use tart apples, like Granny Smith.
    • Apple cider vinegar: This enhances the flavor of the apples.
    • Dried apricots: They sweeten the chutney while rounding out the flavor.
    • Cinnamon: This adds essential spice to the chutney.
    • Allspice: This adds deeper notes to the spices.
    • Cloves: You only need a minimal amount of cloves.
    • Rosemary: Use fresh rosemary for the best aroma.

How to Make Baked Brie (with Cranberry Chutney)

Follow along to learn how to make baked brie with cranberry chutney!

    • Step One: Add orange juice and honey to a medium saute pan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Preheat oven to 400℉.
    • Step Two: Add the cranberries, diced apple, apple cider vinegar, apricots, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves. Bring contents to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring often.

    • Step Three: While your chutney simmers, trim the puffed pasty sheet into a circle with a pizza cutter, using a plate as a guide. With the pastry floured side down (you might need to use a small amount of additional flour), roll out the dough to approximately twice the circumference. Place the brie wheel into the center of the puff pastry, wrap the edges over the top of the brie, leaving a few inches open in the center, and pinch the dough (cutting away any excess), ensuring the shell is secure.

    • Step Four: Place the Brie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until the pastry is golden brown. Transfer to a serving plate with a knife, and top the center with walnuts and chutney. Allow to cool for several minutes before serving, garnish with rosemary, serve with sliced baguette and fruit, and enjoy!

    What to Serve with It

The melty brie and flaky pastry is the perfect thing to serve at a party. Add it to the table with some crescent rolls, or place it in the middle of a cheese board or charcuterie board. Here are some more tasty appetizers that are perfect to serve with it.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Crescent roll dough: Instead of puff pastry dough, use crescent roll dough.
    • Maple syrup: Instead of a drizzle of honey, use some maple syrup.
    • Change the chutney: Instead of cranberry chutney, serve it with apricot preserves, fig jam, cranberry jam, or apricot jam.

    Storage Instructions

Store leftover brie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. It’s best to store the cranberry chutney separately from the brie and puff pastry.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Add an egg wash to the puff pastry. This will crisp it up and make it extra flaky.
    • Ask the deli to give you baguette slices that are already pre-cut. This will save you time.
    • Use fresh ingredients. Fresh rosemary has a strong aroma that takes the brie to a new level.
    • Use a cast iron skillet. Then, you can keep it warm on the stove after you take it out of the oven.

    What is Brie Cheese?

Brie cheese is the best cheese to use when you want to enjoy creamy melted cheese. It’s also a bit fancy. It’s a soft French cheese with a velvety rind and a mild, buttery flavor. Perfect for feeling a bit posh or just treating your taste buds to something delightful!

You might also notice that this wheel of cheese has a rind. But you can eat the entire cheese wheel – even the rind.

Do I Have To Remove The Rind?

No, you don’t have to remove the brie rind before you bake it. It has an edible rind and contains the cheese from melting into a puddle over your baking sheet.

Once you’re serving, though, it’s on! The best part is unleashing that cheese and watching your guests enjoy it.

    Other Toppings

You can add so many other things on top of the wedge of brie. Fresh thyme will take it to the next level. You can also use hot pepper jelly instead of cranberry chutney. Try different things and see what your taste buds like best.

    How To Reheat

Just reheat it in the microwave for a few minutes, and it’s good. Not miraculous revived to its former glory, but good!

How Long Will The Cheese Stay Gooey?

The cheese will stay deliciously melty for approximately 20 minutes. With my family, this is a perfect amount of time to make it disappear.

    FAQ

Is 400℉ too hot to bake brie?

If baking the brie without puff pastry, you can cook it at a lower temperature. But 400℉ is the perfect temperature to bake the brie and toast the pastry simultaneously.

Why is my baked brie hard or rubbery?

Unfortunately, this is an indication that you’ve overcooked your brie. If you want the best melted cheese, set a timer or observe your pastry-wrapped cheese as it bakes. You will need to find the perfect balance of cooking and toasting.
