What to Serve with Air Fryer Apples

Serve your air-fried apples with other delicious desserts to create a fun dessert spread.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Apple Varieties: Try different apple types such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for varying levels of sweetness and tartness. This recipe allows you to choose your favorite varieties of apples without limitations.
    • Sweeteners: Substitute brown sugar with alternatives like maple syrup, coconut sugar, granulated sugar, or a sugar substitute for different sweetness levels. Make sure to taste as you go to ensure you add the right amount.
    • Spices: Experiment with spices like nutmeg, allspice, cardamom, or ginger in addition to or in place of cinnamon for unique flavors. Adding spices can elevate the dish and create a warm and inviting flavor profile that is all your own.
    • Citrus Twist: Replace the lemon juice with lime juice for a tangy variation. It will add an entirely different depth of flavor to the apples.
    • Crunchy Texture: Add chopped nuts such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds to the apples. This will provide a fun textural experience with a bunch of added crunch.
    • Coconut Flair: Mix in shredded coconut for a tropical touch. You can even toast the coconut and toss them with the apples when fresh from the air fryer.

    Storage Instructions

These easy air fryer apples are best when enjoyed straight out of the air fryer. If, for whatever reason, you need to store leftovers, wait for them to cook and then place them in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy them within 3-4 days by reheating them in the air fryer.

    Can I Freeze?

It is not recommended that you freeze these air fryer apples. This is because they are best enjoyed fresh from the air fryer while still warm.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Choose the Right Apples: Choose firm and crisp apples that hold their shape during cooking. Varieties like Fuji, Gala, Cosmic Crisp, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady work well. Choosing the right type of apple is important to ensure they maintain their texture.
    • Slice the Apples Evenly: Aim for consistent apple slice thickness to ensure even cooking. A mandoline slicer can help achieve uniform slices. You want your apple slices to be between ¼ and ½ an inch thick.
    • Coat the Apples Evenly: When adding cornstarch and seasonings, toss the apple slices gently in a bowl to coat them evenly without bruising. You want to ensure that the apples receive a good dose of the seasonings and cornstarch without compromising the integrity of the apple itself.
    • Layering Tips: Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. This will make sure that the apples come out crisp and evenly cooked. Cook them in batches to ensure the best result.
    • Cooking Time Tricks: Keep an eye on the apples, as cooking times vary based on the air fryer model and apple thickness. Adjust the cooking time if needed to prevent overcooking or undercooking.
    • Don’t Forget to Flip: Flip the apple slices with tongs every 5 minutes to ensure even browning on both sides. You want a crisp, even texture on both sides of the apples.
    • Prevent Sticking: Spraying the air fryer basket with cooking oil spray or lightly brushing it with oil or melted butter helps to prevent the apple slices from sticking. You don’t want the apples to stick to the air fryer basket as they can create a sticky mess, and this will reduce their crispiness.
    • Cool Before Serving: Allow the air-fried apples to cool slightly before serving. They will continue to crisp up a bit as they cool. You want to ensure you serve them warm but not scalding hot.

What is the Best Way to Cut the Apples?

The best way to slice your apples for this recipe would be to use an adjustable mandoline. This will ensure all the apples are sliced to be the same size and thickness. If you do not have a mandoline, simply use a sharp knife to slice the apples to 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thickness.

    How to Serve

    • As a Delicious Snack: Enjoy the air-fried apple slices as a sweet treat. They offer a delightful combination of sweetness and crispiness, making them fun to mow down on. Especially if you are looking to satisfy your sweet cravings.
    • Toppings: Use the air-fried apples as a topping for your morning quick oats, yogurt, or cereal. They add a burst of flavor and texture to your breakfast.
    • Dessert Parfait: Layer the air-fried apple slices with Greek yogurt, granola, and a drizzle of honey for a delightful dessert parfait. This makes a fantastic, well-rounded dessert.
    • Ice Cream Topping: Warm air-fried apple slices can be the perfect topping for a scoop of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. The creaminess of the ice cream combined with the warm, crisp apples creates a rich dessert experience.
    • Pancake or Waffle Topping: Elevate your pancakes or waffles by adding a generous serving of air-fried apple slices. This will take your pancakes and waffles to the next level, creating a warm and comforting breakfast.
    • Pie or Tart Filling: Use the air-fried apples for mini pies, turnovers, or tarts. Their soft and flavorful texture will be a hit when paired with the flaky pastry. These make for a great apple pie filling.
    • Crepes: Fill crepes with air-fried apple slices, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a dollop of whipped cream for a delightful dessert.
    • Apple Crumble: Create a quick apple crumble by topping the air-fried apples with oats, flour, butter, and brown sugar, then bake until golden and crisp.
    • Sandwiches: Add a layer of air-fried apple slices to sandwiches or wraps for sweetness and crunch. They go especially well in a brie and apple grilled cheese.
    • Charcuterie Board: Arrange air-fried apple slices alongside cheeses, nuts, and other accompaniments on a charcuterie board. This will add a sweet element to your otherwise savory charcuterie board.
    • Dipping Sauces: Serve the air-fried apple slices with dipping sauces like caramel, chocolate, or whipped cream for an indulgent treat. They pair well with any kind of sauce.
    • Garnish: Use air-fried apple slices as a beautiful garnish for desserts, cocktails, or savory dishes.

How Thin Should the Apple Slices Be?

You want your apples to be about 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 an inch thick. This will ensure the apples cook evenly and maintain a nice crispy texture.

Will the Apples Soften or Crisp Up in an Air Fryer?

It is a combination of both! The insides of your apples will get even softer and juicy, maintaining a lot of moisture. The outsides of your apples will crisp up and become golden brown, creating a fun textural experience.

    How to Reheat

If you want to reheat this delicious recipe, the best option is to use your air fryer. This will make sure that they maintain their texture and crisp up properly. Place them in a single layer in the air fryer heated at 350 to reheat them. Reheat them for about 3-5 minutes, checking to ensure they are heated through.
