What to Serve with Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Serve these delicious pork chops with some of your favorite side dishes.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Bone-in Pork Chops: While this recipe calls for boneless pork chops, you can easily use bone-in pork chops as a substitution. Be aware, though, that bone-in pork chops take longer to cook than the boneless variety, so ensure that you have a meat thermometer on hand to ensure they are cooked properly.
    • Add-in Herbs: Experiment with herbs like rosemary, thyme, or marjoram. Adding these different herbs will create a delicious flavor profile.
    • Protein Variations: If you want to change the proteins, you can easily use chicken or turkey. If you are looking for a vegetarian option, consider using portabella mushrooms.
    • Use the Grill: Rather than broiling your pork chops, grill them over medium-high heat. This will add some beautiful grill marks and a yummy smoky flavor.
    • Add some Spices: Adding a few red pepper flakes or hot sauce can make the most amazing honey garlic sauce for your pork chops. If you crave a little spice, this can certainly elevate the dish.
    • Oil Variations: You can use any high smoke point oil if you don’t have avocado oil. Oils like vegetable, canola, and grapeseed oil will all work perfectly.

    Storage Instructions

It is doubtful that you will have leftovers from this honey garlic pork chops recipe. It is just so delicious! However, if you have leftovers, they can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Simply put the cooled pork chops in an airtight container and put them in the refrigerator.

    Can I Freeze?

Yes, this recipe can be frozen. To freeze your honey garlic pork chops, position them inside a container or bag suitable for freezing. Keep them stored in the freezer for 2-3 months. When the time comes to reheat, simply allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight, followed by reheating in the oven or microwave until thoroughly heated.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to measure the pork chops’ internal temperature accurately. This ensures they reach the recommended safe cooking temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit while staying juicy and flavorful. Using a meat thermometer will also help prevent you from overcooking and drying them out.
    • Proper Seasoning: Don’t skimp on the seasoning. Massaging the sea salt, sage, and black pepper onto both sides of the pork chops ensures even flavor distribution throughout the meat. If you skip this step, the recipe will not be as flavorful as intended.
    • Searing Technique: Make sure your skillet is hot enough before adding in your pork chops. You want a good sear on them to create texture and lock in the juices.
    • Glaze Consistency: Pay attention to the sauce’s consistency while simmering. You want the honey and soy sauce mixture to thicken slightly, creating a luscious glaze that coats the pork chops beautifully. It is ready when it evenly coats the back of a spoon.
    • Resting Time: After cooking, the cooked pork chops will rest under aluminum foil. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute within the meat, ensuring tender and succulent chops.
    • Garnish Creatively: Garnishing your finished dish can create an elevated visual appeal. Fresh parsley adds a lovely touch, but feel free to experiment with other herbs or toppings like chopped green onions, toasted sesame seeds, or crushed nuts for texture.
    • Marinate the Chops: For enhanced flavor, marinate the pork chops in the sticky honey garlic glaze for a few hours or overnight before cooking. This can deepen the flavor and tenderness of the meat. This sauce makes a delicious honey garlic marinade.

What Cut of Pork Chops is Best?

This recipe calls for boneless center-cut pork chops, but you can use virtually any type of pork chop you desire. You can use bone-in chops, loin chops, thin, or thick-cut pork chops. Just remember to augment the cooking time and use a meat thermometer to ensure they are cooked correctly.

How to Know When Pork Chops are Done

The best way to know when your pork chops are finished, cooking is to use a meat thermometer. Pork chops are finished when they reach a minimum internal temperature of 145 degrees F.

What If I Don’t Have an Oven-Safe Skillet?

You can still make these delicious pork chops if you do not have an oven-safe skillet. Simply opt for a different method to finish the dish.

    • Use a Separate Baking Dish: After searing the pork chops on the stovetop, transfer them to a separate oven-safe baking dish. Pour the sauce over the pork chops into the baking dish. Then, place the baking dish in the oven to broil for 1-2 minutes to achieve slightly charred edges.
    • Skip the Broiling Step: If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet or baking dish, you can skip the broiling step altogether. After searing the pork chops on the stovetop and preparing the sauce, you can finish cooking the pork chops on the stovetop. Lower the heat to a simmer, add the sauce, and allow the pork chops to cook for a few more minutes until fully cooked and the sauce is well incorporated.
    • Transfer to a Grilling Option: If you have a grill, you can also finish cooking the pork chops on the grill instead of broiling them in the oven. Once the pork chops are seared on the stovetop and coated with the sauce, transfer them to a preheated grill and cook for a few minutes on each side until fully cooked and slightly charred.

    Topping Ideas

    • Toasted Nuts: Sprinkle chopped toasted nuts such as almonds, pecans, or walnuts over the pork chops for added crunch. This will create a fun textural experience.
    • Crispy Onions: Top the pork chops with crispy fried onions or shallots. This will add a delicious flavor as well as a fantastic crunch.
    • Fresh Herb Medley: Create a medley of fresh herbs like parsley, chives, and cilantro. Finely chop the herbs, and sprinkle over the pork chops. This will add a burst of color and freshness.
    • Sautéed Mushrooms: Create a flavorful mushroom sauté with garlic, butter, and herbs, and spoon it over the pork chops for an earthy and aromatic topping. Mushrooms pair very well with pork chops and will enhance the spectacular honey-garlic glaze.
    • Chutney: Pair the pork chops with sweet and savory chutney, such as apple-cranberry or peach-ginger, for a burst of flavor. This will pair well with the sauce and add a great depth of flavor to the dish.

    How to Reheat

    Oven Method

    • Step One: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
    • Step Two: Place the leftover pork chops in an oven-safe dish or on a baking sheet.
    • Step Three: Cover the dish with aluminum foil to prevent the pork chops from drying out.
    • Step Four: Reheat in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit (63 degrees Celsius).
    • Step Five: Remove from the oven and serve once heated.

    Stovetop Method

    • Step One: Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
    • Step Two: Cover the pork chops in the skillet with a lid.
    • Step Three: Reheat for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the pork chops are heated.
    • Step Four: Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit (63 degrees Celsius).
    • Step Five: Once heated, remove from the skillet and serve.

    Microwave Method

    • Step One: Place the pork chops on a microwave-safe plate and cover them with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap.
    • Step Two: Microwave on medium power in 1-minute intervals, checking and flipping the pork chops between intervals.
    • Step Three: It may take about 2-4 minutes to reheat the pork chops, depending on your microwave’s power and the thickness of the chops.
    • Step Four: Ensure the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit (63 degrees Celsius) before serving.
