Bite into the tastiest fried desserts you’ve ever made. This sweet snack is a pure delight to eat with the same crispiness of a classic egg roll but filled with sugary apples instead of meat and cabbage. There are many ways to make dessert egg rolls, but my recipe is incredibly simple.

Easy apple pie egg rolls are some of the easiest desserts you can make. Once you learn how easy it is to roll the egg roll wrappers, you can whip up a batch that will feed a crowd! It’s easiest to fill them with canned pie filling, but you can also use simple homemade cinnamon apple filling. That’s the beautiful thing about this recipe – there is so much room for creativity.

This delicious recipe is made with just a handful of ingredients. Here is what you’ll need.

    • All-Purpose Flour: You’ll use this and the water as glue to hold the egg wrappers together.
    • Egg Roll Wrappers: Use your favorite size and brand. Premade is easier than making them yourself.
    • Apple Pie Filling: Using premade apple pie filling instead of making your own is much easier and faster.
    • Granulated Sugar: This is for the coating on the outside.
    • Ground Cinnamon: The cinnamon coats the outside of the egg rolls with the sugar.
    • Caramel Sauce: This is optional, but it tastes so good when you use it as a dip.

How to Make Apple Pie Egg Rolls

    • Step One: Whisk the water and flour together in a small bowl and set aside.
    • Step Two: Lay an eggroll wrapper on a clean work surface with a pointy end facing you. Place ⅓ cup of the apple pie filling at the bottom third of the wrapper.
    • Step Three: Take the bottom corner and fold it up over the filling. Dip your finger into the flour mixture and run it along the exposed edges of the wrapper.

    • Step Five: Heat a deep fryer or Dutch oven with 4 inches of oil to 350°F.
    • Step Six: Stir the sugar and cinnamon in a small, shallow bowl.
    • Step Seven: Very carefully place a couple of the egg rolls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, 3-4 minutes. Make sure to flip them often so they brown evenly.
    • Step Eight: Using tongs, remove one of the eggrolls and let any excess oil drip off. Immediately place it into the cinnamon sugar and roll it around until coated.
    • Step Nine: Place the coated eggroll on a wire rack over a sheet tray to catch excess cinnamon sugar.
    • Step Ten: Repeat with the remaining eggrolls and serve warm with caramel sauce for dipping.

    • Small Mixing Bowl – This is for the cinnamon sugar blend.
    • Deep Fryer –  You can also use a Dutch oven, but you need something that can hold 4 inches of oil.
    • Food Thermometer – Measure the temperature of the oil so you know when it reaches 350F
    • Pastry Brush – This is optional, but use a pastry brush for the flour and water mixture instead of your fingers.
    • Tongs – This is the best tool for removing the egg rolls from the hot oil.,
    • Wire Rack – This is best for letting the egg rolls cool.
    • Sheet Pan Place this under the wire rack to catch any excess oil that drips.

What to Serve with Apple Pie Egg Rolls

Serve and show off your apple pie egg rolls at your next party, or serve them as dessert after a family dinner. Here are some desserts that will taste delicious with the apple egg rolls.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Change the shape.  Fold the wrappers into triangles or squares – the choice is yours!
    • Dust with apple pie spice. This will amp up the overall flavors.
    • Use different pie fillings.  Don’t just use apple pie filling; try it with blueberry or peach pie filling.
    • Sprinkle powdered sugar on the outside instead of cinnamon sugar.

    Storage Instructions

Place in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days. I do not recommend freezing them because as they thaw, the wrappers might soften, and they won’t taste nearly as delicious as the first day you made them.

Apple Pie Egg Rolls Tips and Tricks

    • Do not reheat them in the fryer since they are coated in cinnamon sugar and will burn.
    • Be careful to add enough water and flour mixture to the center of the wrapper.
    • Do not overfill the wrappers.

    Best Oil To Use

When you fry egg rolls, it’s best to stick to the basic types of oil. Either peanut oil, vegetable oil, or canola oil will all work perfectly. I don’t recommend deep frying in coconut, olive, or avocado oil.

Can I Make In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can air fry the egg rolls, too! To make air fryer apple pie egg rolls, roll them and then place them in a single layer in the bottom of the basket. Then, cook them at 400F for 6 minutes. Spray egg rolls with cooking spray. Flip them over, and cook for five more minutes.

Can I Make In The Oven?

Yes, you can make them in the oven, too. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper so the egg rolls don’t stick. Then, place the egg rolls on your prepared baking sheet and bake them for 12 minutes at 375F. Brush melted butter on the egg rolls and bake them for five more minutes. This will make them nice and crispy.

Why Did My Egg Rolls Unwrap?

Your egg rolls might unwrap or leak if they aren’t sealed completely. You should make sure to add plenty of the flour and water mixture to seal it well. If your egg rolls rip or unwrap, here is what you can do about it. Cut off the corner from an extra wrapper. Patch the small wrapper piece with egg wash over the hole. Add plenty of water and flour mixture to make it stick.

    Dips

I used caramel sauce, but there are so many other types of dip that you can serve with the delicious egg rolls. Cinnamon cream cheese dip incorporates all the classic cinnamon sugar flavors from the apple pie egg rolls.

Or make some homemade whipped cream to add to the table. If you want to mix and match seasonal flavors, some gingerbread dip will taste fantastic with the egg rolls.

Can I Use Another Pie Filling?

Yes,  you can make this with any other type of pie filling. Try it with peach, blueberry, or even cherry pie filling. Each one you make will completely change how it tastes.

    FAQ

Can I make my own apple pie filling?

Yes, you certainly can. My favorite homemade apple pie filling is lemon juice, brown sugar, and granny smith apples.

Can you use pie crust instead of egg roll wrappers?

Yes, you can use pie dough as wrappers instead of egg roll wrappers. If you do, it’s best to roll it out as thin as possible to be flaky instead of chewy.

How many servings does this make?

This recipe makes about seven servings.
