Cinnamon Bread
Cinnamon Bread is so simple and incredibly moist with swirls of cinnamon and brown sugar throughout. This homemade quick bread recipe is perfect for breakfast, dessert or a snack and even makes a nice Christmas gift.
I love from scratch bread recipes as long as they are uncomplicated! This simple recipe uses NO yeast and is ready to enjoy in just over an hour from start to finish. Some might say it’s a Christmas bread, but I think you could enjoy it any time of year when you are craving something sweet and homemade.
This cinnamon loaf reminds me of something my grandmother would make. I could always count on her for yummy treats when I went for a visit. One of the ingredients is buttermilk. My grandma LOVED buttermilk. She used to drink it like a glass of regular milk! I don’t know how she did it.
I have a simple buttermilk hack included as well so you don’t have to go out and buy an actual carton of buttermilk. I’m sure not all of us are like my grandma and want to drink it by the glass!

Gather up the following ingredients to make this Cinnamon Bread.
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Butter – I used salted because that is what I had.
- Eggs
- Buttermilk or sour milk – see my simple hack below.

- All-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Salt
How to Make
- Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a large (9-inch) loaf pan and set aside.
In a small bowl, stir together cinnamon and brown sugar. Set aside. - In another bowl, add white sugar and butter and blend together with a mixer. Add in eggs, sour milk and vanilla and blend together with a mixer.
- In another bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to wet mixture and stir to combine.
- Pour half the batter into the loaf pan. Sprinkle half the cinnamon mixture on top. Pour remaining batter on top. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon mixture on top.
- Cut through batter with a butter knife in a zigzag pattern.
- Bake for 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool slightly before removing from the loaf pan.

Buttermilk Hacks
No buttermilk? No problem. There’s a couple ways you can turn regular milk into buttermilk or “sour milk”.
For every cup of milk, add either 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Stir and let sit for five minutes before using. That’s it!
Don’t worry, you won’t taste the sourness in the recipe. Buttermilk or sour milk helps make the baked goods more tender and moist.
How to Store
Wrap any uneaten portion of your loaf in plastic wrap and leave at room temperature. It will keep for up to three days.
Want to freeze? You can freeze either by the loaf or by the slice. Bake the bread according to the recipe directions and let it cool completely. Store in freezer bags in your freezer for up to three months.
When you want to eat it, thaw in the fridge overnight and then enjoy.
How to Reheat
Heating your slice of bread is totally optional. Some people like to eat warm bread so I’ll include the information here. It’s basically just microwaving it for 20 to 30 seconds to heat it up and bring out those sweet cinnamon flavors. Spread butter on your slice if you like.
What Pairs Well with Cinnamon Bread
Eat a slice as a quick afternoon snack, for breakfast or dessert. You don’t really need a reason to enjoy it!
Here a few ways to enjoy it:
- With a cup of coffee or tea
- Enjoy with a Chai Latte or Gingerbread Latte
- Put in bowl and top with vanilla ice cream
- Drizzle with some homemade butterscotch sauce
- Slice it up and spread butter or plain cream cheese on top
- Serve with some fresh fruit
