    Variations and Substitutions

    • Add a Crunchy Layer: Sprinkle crushed graham crackers, vanilla wafers, or chocolate cookie crumbs at the bottom of your serving dish for added texture.

    Storage Instructions

    • Refrigeration: Store any leftover strawberry mousse in an airtight container or cover each dessert dish with plastic wrap. It will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.
    • Freezing: While mousse is best enjoyed fresh, you can freeze it for a more ice cream-like texture. Spoon it into freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to 1 month. Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
    • Make-Ahead Tip: This mousse is a great make-ahead dessert! Prepare it the night before, let it chill overnight, and it will be perfectly set and ready to serve the next day.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Dissolve the Jello Completely: Make sure to stir the Jello into the boiling water until no granules remain. This ensures a smooth texture.
    • Use Room Temperature Cream Cheese: Softened cream cheese blends more easily, preventing lumps in your mousse. If it’s too cold, microwave it for about 10 seconds to soften.
    • Blend Until Smooth: A high-speed blender or food processor will give you the creamiest texture. Blend for at least a minute to fully incorporate the strawberries and cream cheese.
    • Cool the Jello Mixture Slightly: Let the Jello mixture cool for a minute before adding the Cool Whip. If it’s too warm, it can make the mousse runny.
    • Gently Fold in the Cool Whip: Whisk or fold it in carefully to keep the mousse light and airy—overmixing can deflate the fluffiness.
    • Chill for Best Results: Give it at least 2 hours in the fridge to fully set. Overnight is even better for a firmer texture.
    • Make It Extra Fancy: Serve in wine glasses or dessert cups for an elegant presentation, and don’t forget the extra whipped cream and fresh strawberries!

I made this mousse a few weeks ago and my granddaughters loved it! So today I thought I would make it again and this time use sugar free Jell-O and sugar free Cool Whip. My husband is pre-diabetic and so he can eat more of it. Great recipe, thanks!

    3. Hi,
Would you recommend keeping Strawberry Mousse in freezer to use at a later date? If so, how long can we keep it in freezer?

      Thanks

      1. You can freeze it, but it will change the texture a bit. Thaw it in the fridge before you want to eat it. I wouldn’t keep it any longer than 3 months.

    4. HI Stacie, I was wondering if you could tell me approximately how many servings this would make. I am looking to make this for a baby shower. Thanks!

    5. Instead of cool whip can I use a stiff fresh whipped cream?

    6. Would I be able to let it set in a chocolate bowl ?

    7. Hi Stacie could I use this mousse as a cake filling? Thanks Anna

      1. I’ve never used it in cake so I’m not sure, but let me know if you do use it!
