    Variations and Substitutions

    • Swap the Potatoes: If you don’t have Yukon Golds, try baby red potatoes or fingerlings—they work just as well and bring their own unique flavor and texture.
    • Change Up the Seasoning: Replace garlic salt with your favorite spice blends like Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, or everything bagel seasoning for a fun twist.
    • Cheesy Upgrade: Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan or shredded cheddar on top during the last few minutes in the air fryer for a melty, cheesy finish.
    • Herb Lovers’ Delight: Add fresh rosemary, thyme, or chives for an aromatic boost. Dried herbs work in a pinch, too!
    • Spicy Kick: If you like heat, try a dash of chili powder, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes before air frying.
    • Make It a Meal: Turn these into loaded smashed potatoes by topping them with crumbled bacon, sour cream, green onions, and a sprinkle of cheese.

    Dipping Sauces

    • Garlic Aioli: Creamy, garlicky, and oh-so-satisfying. Perfect for adding a gourmet touch.
    • Sour Cream and Chives: A classic combo that adds a cool and tangy contrast to the crispy potatoes.
    • Spicy Sriracha Mayo: Mix mayo with a splash of Sriracha for a little kick. It’s the perfect balance of heat and creaminess.
    • Ranch Dressing: A crowd favorite that never disappoints—cool, herby, and flavorful.
    • Cheese Sauce: Warm, gooey cheese sauce makes these potatoes feel indulgent and comforting. I love them with queso.
    • Honey Mustard: The perfect blend of sweet and tangy, great for those who love a little zing.
    • BBQ Sauce: Smoky and savory, this sauce adds a bold flavor that pairs beautifully with the potatoes.
    • Yogurt Dill Sauce: Mix plain yogurt with fresh dill and a squeeze of lemon for a light, refreshing dip.

    Storage Instructions

    • Refrigerating: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They’ll stay crisp if you let them cool completely before storing them.
    • Reheating: Reheat the potatoes in the air fryer at 375℉ for 3 to 5 minutes to bring back their crunch. Avoid microwaving, as it can make them soggy.
    • Freezing: While these potatoes are best enjoyed fresh, you can freeze them after air frying. Freeze them individually on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. They’ll keep for up to 2 months.
    • Reheating from Frozen: Pop the frozen potatoes straight into the air fryer at 375℉ for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until heated and crispy again.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Choose Similar-Sized Potatoes: This ensures even cooking, so all your potatoes are perfectly tender and crispy.
    • Don’t Skip the Boiling: Boiling the potatoes first is key to getting that creamy center before smashing and air frying.
    • Let Them Cool Before Smashing: A short cooling period helps the potatoes hold their shape better when you flatten them.
    • Smash Gently: Press just enough to flatten the potatoes without breaking them apart—this helps them crisp up beautifully.
    • Don’t Crowd the Air Fryer: Give the potatoes space in the basket for maximum crispiness. If needed, cook in batches.
    • Use an Oil Sprayer: A light spritz of oil on the air fryer basket and the potatoes helps achieve that golden, crispy finish. Never use an aerosol oil spray in an air fryer, or you could damage the finish of your basket.
    • Season Generously: Don’t be shy with the garlic salt (or your seasoning of choice)—the flavor really shines through once the potatoes are crispy.
    • Serve Immediately: These potatoes are best enjoyed fresh and hot for that perfect crunch.

    Oven Instructions

    • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 425℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
    • Prepare the Potatoes: Follow the same steps to boil and smash the potatoes.
    • Season and Arrange: Place the smashed potatoes on the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic salt. Make sure they’re spaced out for even crisping.
    • Bake: Roast the potatoes in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they’re golden and crispy.
    • Garnish and Serve: Let them cool slightly, then top with fresh parsley, if desired, and enjoy!
