Apple Pie Spice

Whenever fall rolls around, I make a beeline to the kitchen to whip up my favorite apple pie spice. Loaded with classic spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger, it’s a super-comforting blend that works in everything from apple pie to muffins, pancakes, and warm bowls of oatmeal.

Apple Pie Spice - A fragrant blend of fall spices! It smells heavenly and adds a wonderful flavour to your fall desserts.

It’s incredibly fragrant, and my family always knows when I’ve come home with a bushel of apples as the waft of glorious spices just floats through the house.

Trust me, it’s dreamy!

When I couldn’t find apple pie spice at the store one fateful fall evening, I decided to take things into my own hands. I also put cardamon into the blend a few years ago as it has a slight spiciness that you’ll often find in Indian cooking. It gives the blend a depth of flavor that you won’t find anywhere else.

Although I love using this blend for apple pie, it works with virtually any apple-based dessert during the fall. And if you’re really creative, you can even use it in a DIY beauty scrub for beautifully exfoliated skin. It’s just that versatile!

If the taste and ease of use weren’t enough to convince you to give this recipe a whirl, perhaps the fact that it’s almost a one-step recipe will! All you need to do is measure out your spices, stir them in a small bowl, and place the finished mix into a mason jar in the pantry.

Not only will your mix be fresh and on hand for those last-minute apple pies, but it saves you trawling through the grocery aisles for their elusive apple pie spice. Oh, and it’ll save you tons of money in the long run too!

What to Make with Apple Pie Spice

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • You can easily scale the recipe up or down depending on how much apple pie spice you need to make. Just adjust the measurements accordingly.
    • It’s important to seal your spice blend properly to keep it fresh. Storing it in a mason jar should help your spices keep their aromatic flavors.
    • Double-check your base spices before throwing them in the mix. Overly lumpy spice bottles may have expired and won’t give you the perfectly smooth spice mix you’re looking for!

    Variations and Substitutions

    • The spices used in this recipe are pretty classic, but you can leave out the ginger and cardamom if you don’t want the added warmth.
    • To make this spice blend even warmer, add half a teaspoon of clove!
    • If you don’t want to include the cardamom, it’s best to double the allspice measurement.

    Storage Instructions

Store your apple pie spice in airtight mason jars in a cool and dry place. It’s also best to keep your mixture out of direct sunlight to make it last longer! It should stay safe to eat for up to 2 years, but I doubt it’ll last that long.

    Can I Freeze?

There’s no need to as it’ll stay fresh in the cupboard!

Just remember that your ground spices might lose their flavor over time, so don’t leave it too long before enjoying them.
