To make this simple hot beverage, you’ll need these ingredients.
- Half and half – You could also use regular 2% milk.

What is a Mocha Latte?
A mocha latte is a basically a regular latte with the addition of chocolate. Lattes typically have espresso and steamed/frothed milk and are really heavy on the coffee flavor.
I find the coffee flavor is toned down in a mocha latte because of the chocolate mix. It’s definitely more sweet, and oh so good.
Can I make a latte without espresso?
Yes, you can. I recommend using dark roast coffee or the strongest coffee you have in your home.
How do you froth milk for a latte?
My favorite way to froth milk is with a frothing wand and milk pitcher. It takes seconds to make it so creamy and frothy. Frothing wands are inexpensive and you can usually pick one up for under $20.
The Pioneer Woman has a great post featuring eight different ways to froth milk for a latte.
Do I need a fancy espresso maker?
No! Sure, they are nice to have, but if you don’t make lattes that often, they are very costly! I had one before and it was over $1,000!
Instead, I use a stovetop espresso maker. My favorite is the Grosche Stovetop Espresso Maker. All you need is ground espresso and water. It heats up on the stove for about 8 minutes or so and brews piping hot fresh espresso.
Can I make it ahead of time?
I don’t recommend it. For best results, make it fresh and enjoy it while it’s hot.
Do I need to add sugar?
Because the cocoa is unsweetened, the drink needs some of kind sweetness added. I use regular granulate sugar, but you could substitute a sweetener like Splenda.
Can I make it dairy free?
Yes, you can substitute the milk with coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk or whatever other plant based milk you like.
