Egg Roll in a Bowl is everything you love about egg rolls without all the fuss! Forget the wrapper and enjoy the delicious and savoury taste of the inside of an egg roll. It’s SO easy to make in your Crock-Pot® 6 Qt. Cook & Carry Programmable Slow Cooker.
Egg Roll in a Bowl
Slow cooking is one of my favourite ways to cook dinner for my family. In fact, my Crock-Pot® Programmable Slow Cooker has a permanent home on my kitchen countertop. It’s the one appliance that I keep out because I use it so often.
One recipe I’ve been wanting to make for a long time is Egg Roll in a Bowl. I adore egg rolls, but, to be perfectly honest, I’m intimidated to make them the traditional way. I can only imagine how my egg rolls would look if I tried to neatly wrap them up. Let’s just say it would be a major Pinterest fail!
Instead, I took a shortcut and made Egg Roll in a Bowl. It’s basically just the egg roll filling. No messy wrappers or clumsy fingers to deal with. That’s my kinda recipe. Easy peasy.
Egg Roll in a Bowl Ingredients
I even took a few shortcuts in the ingredients as you’ll see. There is barely any veggie chopping involved here.
You’ll need the following ingredients to create this recipe:
- Cooked ground pork (ground chicken or beef could also work)
- Garlic cloves
- Fresh ginger
- Bag of coleslaw salad mix (LOVE that it’s all chopped up and ready to go!)
- Soy sauce
- Sesame oil
- Hoisin sauce
- Chicken broth
- Bean sprouts
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
How to Make Egg Roll in a Bowl
The beauty of slow cooking is that it’s basically set it and forget it. You can add all the ingredients hours ahead of time and continue on with your day.
The first step is to add the cooked ground pork, garlic, ginger, coleslaw mix, soy sauce, sesame oil, Hoisin sauce, chicken broth and bean sprouts to a Crock-Pot® 6 Qt. Cook & Carry Programmable Slow Cooker. Give it a good stir to combine all the ingredients and then cover.
Cook on LOW for 4 hours. Then enjoy the delicious smell that will be wafting through your home all afternoon. Yum! Don’t peek though. Keep it covered.
When it’s ready to serve, add to serving bowls. You can garnish with freshly chopped green onions and sesame seeds if you wish.
Then dig in!

I love that the Cook & Carry feature. I can prepare a slow cooked recipe at home and take it with me to a pot-luck or to share with friends and family.
It’s also very easy to use. Just plug it in, turn it on and then pick a setting.
Using a slow cooker saves me money because I’m not reaching for the takeout menu. It also saves me time because once the prep work is done, the slow cooker does the rest of the cooking process for me.
The flavours are delicious and all the ingredients are tender and perfectly cooked. You can pretty much make just about anything in it!
What to Serve with Egg Roll in a Bowl
I serve Egg Roll in a Bowl as the main dish for dinner. I recommend serving rice as a side. You can add the rice to a bowl and then add the Egg Roll in a Bowl mixture on top. Make sure to add the extra liquid leftover in the slow cooker to the bowl. The rice will absorb it and be super yummy.
Can You Freeze Egg Roll in a Bowl
Yes! Egg Roll in a Bowl is a great freezer meal. Prepare it according to the recipe instructions and then place in a freezer safe container. Make sure it cools down first before you put the cover on the containers.
Store in your freezer for up to three months.

Made this egg roll in a bowl today and it was delicious! We put it over rice and it really hit the spot! I will definitely look for more recipes from this site. Ooh one thing, I wanted to mention, I scaled down to just one full Tblsp of the ginger. Worked out well for us.
I add waterchestnuts, carrots and peas to mine. Someimes I throw in a bag of frozen vegs that you would buy to make any chinese dish. Sometimes I use hamburger instead of sausage and / or hamburger mixed 50-50 with sausage. I have not used bean sprouts but I am sure it would be delicious. We love this dish.
So delicious , my children ask to make it again .
Have you ever made it without meat? If so what did you use?
I haven’t but I think it would be fine to leave out. You could try it with a meat alternative if you want like Beyond Meat.
Thanks
I’m curious – does the meat have to be cooked prior to putting it in the crock pot? (I’ve seen other recipes that don’t but this one looks really yummy!)
I cook the ground pork before putting it in the crockpot. This way there is less grease and not as many clumps of meat.
I made this recently and my husband and I really enjoyed it! I would like to 2.5 times the recipe and make it on the stove (won’t fit in the crockpot) but would you be able to tell me how long I should simmer it on the stove top if I do so?
I would simmer for 30 minutes on the stove.
This recipe sounds terrific! How much ground ginger would you use instead of fresh ginger? and the beansprouts don’t get overcooked? Thanks
What a great recipe! Thanks for sharing!
