Honey Sriracha Chicken

Grilling season is upon us! Yippee! Ok, maybe I’m just a little bit excited. I don’t BBQ in the winter because I’m a wimp. I’d have to trek around the house to get to the BBQ that is covered in a foot of snow. No thanks. We got the BBQ ready this weekend and this Honey Sriracha Chicken recipe was the first of the season.

Chicken is one of our staples for the grill. My personal preference is grilled chicken breasts, but I’ve used other cuts of chicken in the past. Keeps things interesting! The Chicken Farmers of Canada has a wide variety of delicious BBQ chicken recipes. I’ve made many of them in the past and recommend checking them out. For this Honey Sriracha Chicken, I came up with the marinade on a whim. It’s not that complicated with only four ingredients: honey, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce and garlic. So easy, but so good!

The first thing I do is make the marinade. Add the four ingredients, honey, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce and garlic, to a bowl and stir together. Reserve some of the marinade if you want to use as a dipping sauce.

Make shallow cuts in both sides of the chicken. Add the chicken to a casserole dish and pour over the marinade. You can let it sit in the fridge for a bit if you like or barbecue them right away.

Preheat the barbecue to medium heat. In the first five minutes of cooking, turn the chicken several times while you brush on the marinade. Then continue to cook until a meat thermometer reaches 165F. My barbecue took about 15 minutes for it to reach that temperature. I recommend checking out this cooking temperature chart.

To serve, sprinkle on sesame seeds. It’s not necessary, but I just like how they look. Presentation and all that jazz!

What to Serve with Honey Sriracha Chicken

Honey Sriracha Chicken will be the main course of the meal so you’ll need to add some yummy summer sides. I like pasta salads, potato salads, grilled veggies or fresh tossed salad. Don’t worry, it’s not that spicy so you won’t have to be drinking cold water with every bite. It’s more on the sweet side with a hint of spice.

The Chicken Farmer of Canada has a handy grocery app that has a variety of recipes along with tools to help you organize your shopping list. If you haven’t downloaded it yet on your phone, go do that now! It’s on both iOS and Android.

Tip: You can use this marinade on other cuts of chicken. Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings are delicious! I make them in the oven though and not on the BBQ.

    Shopping for Chicken

When you’re out shopping for chicken to use on your grill this summer, make sure to look for the Raised by a Canadian Farmer mark on the packaging. This way you’ll know that the chicken you are buying is the best quality. All Canadian chicken is raised according to nationally-set, mandatory foot safety and animal care standards. Many stores have chicken with the mark, but some still do not. If it matters to you, consider talking with the store to ask them to use it. The more people that do this, the more they will realize that it’s what Canadians want.
