Apple pie fluff salad is made with simple ingredients that are easy to find at the grocery store. Here’s a bit more information about what you’ll need.
- Apple Pie Filling: Instead of peeling and mixing apples, just use some apple pie filling. It’s perfectly spiced.
- Mini Marshmallows: These small and fluffy marshmallows are extra fun for kids to eat.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk: Don’t use evaporated milk – it isn’t thick or sweet enough. Sweetened condensed milk is thick and creamy, adding more sweetness to the salad.
- Pineapple Chunks: The pineapple gives it a citrusy kick.
- Chopped Walnuts: The crunchy walnuts add saltiness and fun textures to the fluff.
- Sour Cream: Just a small bit of sour cream is all it takes to round out the sweet flavors in the fluff.
- Cinnamon: This is what makes it taste more like apple pie.
- Cool Whip: Any whipped topping made from whipped cream brand will taste delicious.
How to Make Apple Pie Fluff
- Step One: Combine the apple pie filling, mini marshmallows, sweetened condensed milk, pineapple chunks, walnuts, sour cream and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
- Step Two: Fold in the Cool Whip.
- Step Three: Cover and refrigerate for two hours. Serve cold.
- Step Four: Garnish with extra chopped walnuts and cinnamon, if desired.

Serve this sweet treat with more of your favorite party-ready desserts. Here are a few of my favorite ones.
- Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake
- Caramel Apple Cupcakes
- Caramel Bacon Brownies
- Snickers Salad
- Baked Apple Cider Donuts
Variations and Substitutions
- Sprinkle crushed candy bars on top.
- Make homemade whipped cream. You need some heavy whipping cream and a hand mixer.
- Drizzle it with some caramel syrup.
- Use chopped pecans instead of walnuts.
Storage Instructions
Store apple pie fluff in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. I do not recommend freezing it. If you freeze and thaw it, the fluffy texture will change.
Apple Pie Fluff Tips and Tricks
- Drain the liquid from the can before adding it to the fluff if you use a can of pineapple chunks.
- Remember to add the Cool Whip last after mixing all the ingredients well.
- Do not overmix the salad after adding the Cool Whip. Protect the airy fluffiness of the Cool Whip by folding it in gently.
- This tastes best when you serve it when it’s cold.
FAQ
No, I don’t recommend making this with cream cheese. You’ll have to change the entire recipe completely. Adding cream cheese will change the texture of the salad.
I used apple pie filling so the apple slices won’t turn brown. If you have fresh apples, spritz them with lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.
I used canned apple pie filling, so it’s already mixed and spiced! If you want to make homemade apple pie filling, use Granny Smith apples. This is known as a variety of tart apples that are perfect for desserts.
This recipe makes about eight servings.
