Taco Wonton Cups
Taco Wonton Cups are such a yummy appetizer made in a muffin tin with crunchy wonton wrappers! Top the seasoned beef with your favorite taco toppings and melted cheese. These crispy treats will disappear in a flash.
Wonton cup appetizers are the best appetizers, and these Taco Wonton Cups are a family favorite! My kids are always fighting over the last cup, stuffed with seasoned ground beef, Rotel tomatoes, and of course melted cheese. Garnish with your favorite toppings or build a little taco bar and let your guests mix and match!
My beloved pizza wonton cups inspired me to create more wonton recipes. The only thing they have in common is the same crispy wonton shell and the fact that they make an amazingly easy appetizer. I love tacos, so it was a safe bet that these little guys would be a hit with my family.
Ingredients
- Wonton wrappers: I always have a pack of wonton wrappers in my fridge. They’re such an easy way to make any appetizer or quick dinner feel so fancy.
- Ground beef: There’s no easier taco filling than seasoned ground beef! You can always switch the protein, but this keeps it cheap and easy.
- Taco seasoning: If you prefer to make your own taco seasoning versus using the packaged stuff, feel free! I bought a bunch of the taco seasoning packets since we make tacos often around here.
- Tomatoes and chiles: I love adding some Rotel tomatoes to the mix. You can also add some salsa instead for a yummy flavor, too!
I like adding sour cream, tomatoes, and green onion to my Taco Wonton Cups. Oh and let’s not forget cheese. Lots and lots of melted cheese!
What I Used For This Recipe
This post contains affiliate links.
- Muffin tin: There are so many muffin tin recipes beyond cupcakes and muffins! This helps make all your wonton cups exactly the same size.
- Cheese grater: You can always buy pre-shredded cheese, but I find that freshly grated cheese melts better.
How To Make It
- First, grease the muffin pan cups and line each one with 2 wonton wrappers. I usually turn the top wrapper 45 degrees for more pointy corners!
- Then, sauté the onion and ground beef until it’s browned.
- Now, add the taco seasoning blend and mix it all up.
- Next, spoon a teaspoon or 2 of ground beef into the raw wonton wrappers. Add some diced tomatoes and green chiles, and sprinkle a little cheese on top.
- Bake the cups until the cheese is melted and the wontons are beginning to brown.
I like to serve these hot, so I tend to make them right before the party starts. Garnish with your favorite taco toppings! I usually add sour cream and sliced green onions.
How to Store Wonton Cups
If you want to make this recipe ahead of time, you can easily bake the wonton cups the night before your party and fill them right before guests arrive!
Luckily, empty are just as crispy and fresh up to 24 hours later. Simply bake as directed and store them in an air-tight container on the kitchen counter. Keep them out of the fridge, or they’ll lose crispiness!
Since the filling will make the cups soggy over time, I don’t recommend filling them too far in advance. You can always make the taco filling the night before, too, and reheat it before filling the cups.
The Best Taco Toppings
The best part of tacos is truly the toppings. You can take the most simple beef taco to something so amazing with the right garnish!
I usually keep it simple with a dollop of sour cream, some diced tomatoes, and a few green onions. You can always kick it up with some hot sauce and jalapeños or add a little more crunch with lettuce or cabbage.
No matter how you top these Taco Wonton Cups, they’re always a hit!
What To Serve With This
Switch up your filling with these yummy chicken fajita wonton cups. Swap the ground beef for juicy chicken and add some zesty roasted peppers, too.
There’s no fancier appetizer recipe in my arsenal than bacon wrapped water chestnuts. They’re so simple, but feel like a passed over hors d’oeuvres at a fabulous cocktail party. I always make them for the holidays!
This escargot recipe is one of my favorite appetizers! They’re so amazing in mushroom caps with garlic butter, even your picky guests will love them.
