Before I tell you more about our yummy collection, you may wonder what exactly is gingerbread and why is it associated with Christmas?
The Interesting History of Gingerbread
Gingerbread is most commonly known as a baked sweet that contains ginger. It sometimes uses other spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and cardamom. It can be sweetened with molasses, brown sugar, corn syrup, or honey to give it that oh-so-yummy flavor.
So, where did gingerbread come from? Gingerbread was thought to have originated way back in the 16th century with the elaborate cookie houses. I’m sure most of you are familiar with gingerbread houses. Well, according to some, the ornate gingerbread houses were the result of the fairy tale known as “Hansel and Gretel” and the edible house they found in the forest. Gingerbread houses later became popular during Christmas and still are today. Making a gingerbread house may even be a tradition in your family.
There are even more interesting stories about gingerbread, gingerbread men, and the gingerbread houses but for today we want to get to the yummy side of things 🙂
These days, as you will see in our collection, there are tons of yummy delights that you can make using the famous gingerbread flavor. From cakes, cookies, and cupcakes to fudge, milkshakes, and cinnamon rolls, it is literally gingerbread heaven.
