What is the Difference Between Jambalaya and Gumbo?

Gumbo and Jambalaya are often paired together, but they are very different. Gumbo is made with a roux, which gives it a more stew-like texture, and it is filled with lots of veggies like okra, peppers, celery, and onions. Jambalaya is known for its multiple types of meat and a handful of vegetables to add dimension.

Ever since I realized I am gluten sensitive, I have been eating a lot of rice, and looking for recipes for rice dishes. This sounds just right for me!

  5. Mikki Cross says:

That looks and sounds delicious. I haven’t used a slow cooker before because I’m afraid to leave it on in case I decide to go out for a bit. I did enter to win one of those programmable ones. Maybe I’d feel a bit more secure if I had some sort of safety feature on it. I do use an electric pressure cooker ocassionally but again, I never leave the house when it is on.
BTW, I love jambalaya so I just may give in to trying it in a slow cooker. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Elizabeth says:

I alllllmost bought a slow cooker this holiday season. I’d really like one, but it’s a “want,” not a “need” for me, so I didn’t quite do it. There’s also the question of lack of counter space. 😉 But one day, yeah, I’ll give in and get one! They sound so super handy!
