My Kitchen During Renovations

Kitchen renovations are tough, but we survived! It took almost a month and tried my patience a few times. I’m happy to say that we are finally there. It’s done and it looks fabulous.

I’ve shared the before photos so head on over to check those out if you haven’t already. It was a sight for sore eyes!

We started the process back in March with a trip to our local Home Depot. We sat down with a designer for a few hours while she mapped out our new kitchen. It was decisions, decisions. Which kind of countertop did we want? Style and colour of cabinets? New flooring? Appliances? It was a whirlwind of choices.

The contractor started work at the end of May. We got the Home Depot to do everything for us from demo to flooring to painting. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it in the end.

I snapped some photos of the process so you can see the progress made.

This photo was taken on Day 1 after they ripped out everything in the kitchen right down to the bare wood floors.

    Then came plywood over top.

Here they started priming the walls and tiling the floor. The fridge was the only appliance we kept.

After the floor was done, then came the cabinets! At this point, I realized there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

I remember moving into a house and there was no kitchen at all, we ate meals made on a single electric plate that I bought. We (3 kids and myself) ate a lot of beans on toast, eggs on toast, hotdogs for two weeks before the new kitchen was installed. Washing up was done the small bathroom sink! It was horrible but the new kitchen was beautiful and it was such a relief when it was installed.

It was worth it all to see the kitchen as it is now. 🙂

    3. It is hard having no kitchen but the wait is worthwhile for what you have in the end. Looks beautiful!

I’ve wanted to do my kitchen since we bought the house in 1996 but other things always come first. Your kitchen is beautiful even without the counter top.

    5. Wow – that is “yuge”!!! An amazing before and after! I’m surprised it only took a month. I know someone else who did an entire kitchen reno using interior designer help from Home Depot. Nice!
