Melt and pour soap bases are the way to go if you like easy DIY’s. I do so that’s pretty much all I use when I make my own soap. You can pick them up at any craft store or on Amazon.
Ingredients
- Shea butter melt & pour soap base, cut into one-inch cubes
- yellow soap colorant
- lemon essential oil
I also used a yellow soap colorant I bought on Amazon to give it a pretty and soft hue. The scent comes from the lemon essential oil. I use essential oils in many of my DIY beauty tutorials.
I also recommend you buy a silicone soap mold. They will make your life so much easier! Don’t bother with the cheap plastic molds. The silicone molds are the way to go! You can use them in baking too if you like. Multi-purpose for the win!
Do you know anyone who would love to receive a beautiful homemade soap?

Just quick question does this have to sit for 3 to 4 weeks before it can be used?
Stacie says
Nope! With the melt and pour soaps you can use them after they harden up (about an hour or so).

How do I scale the recipe down to just one bar.
Stacie says
I would use a quarter of the ingredients to make it.
Nathalie Edmon says
I can’t find any melt and pour shea butter soap base. How else can I make this soap?
Stacie Vaughan says
I’m not sure because I’ve only made it with melt and pour soap base. Did you check Amazon to see if they had any?
Nathalie Edmon says
Is it okay if it is a different brand?
Stacie Vaughan says
Yes, you can use whatever brand of melt and pour you can find!
