Lime Lip Balm

When I shared these Lime Lip Balm photos on my personal Facebook profile, I had friends and family asking if they could buy some of them. I told them “no, but I’ll give you some and show you how to make them yourselves!”. I’m not in the business of selling beauty products. I’d rather make them for personal use and then show you how to make them at home. It’s not very hard at all!

Lime Lip Balm - Making your own lip balm isn't hard to do! This one smells fresh and tangy and feels wonderful on dry lips.

I melted the ingredients in a glass Pyrex bowl over a pot of water on the stove at medium heat. You don’t want your ingredients to burn so this is the best way to do it. The beeswax and cocoa butter took the longest to melt completely. You could add those first if you want and give them a head start. I put all of mine in at the same time though and it turned out fine.

After you pour them into the containers, let them sit for at least one hour to cool off. Then put the lid on and apply a pretty label. I used my Brother P-Touch label maker to make these ones.

I love the fresh lime scent and how soft it made my lips feel. I gave a bunch away to my friends and family because there is no way I’ll use that much lip balm in the next few months! To make less lip balm, just halve the recipe so you don’t have as much leftover.

Have you ever made your own lip balm?

    1. How did you make the cool labels on your label maker?

      1. I used the Brother PTouch label maker with coloured tape.

    2. I’ve got fresh limes and no essential oils – would this work as a substitute? Any idea how much I’d need? Thanks!

      1. I’ve never tried it to be honest! I would use a small amount though so you don’t water it down too much like a 1/4 tsp. If you try it out, let me know if it worked or not.

    3. Hi there! Wonderful recipe! But I was under the impression citrus essential oils are to be used cautiously when used in skin products because of their light sensitivity. They can lead to burns, etc. As much as I LOVE lime I’m a little hesitant to use it for a lip balm. But I’ll try the recipe with another essential oil and I’m sure it’ll come out just as wonderful. Thank you for a great DIY!!!

    4. I tried this recipe and came with 3  1/2 oz containers of lip balm, what size containers did you use if you came up with 13.

I made it up to the essential oil part wondering is it a food grade essential oil or is it the for topical use only variety typically sold to use like perfume or as room scent in diffusers and so on?  Also hoping that once essential oil is added it softens it up more because bare bones it firmed up a bit too hard making one have to scoop with fingernail to get any and then it was a bit thick on the lip… I imagine the particular batch of beeswax and air humidity are just a few variables that impact the finish texture (I’m guessing) so if it still too firm after lime essential oil is added I can just add more coconut oil until softness sweet spot is met yes?

      1. I like doTerra essential oils. Yes, just add a bit more coconut oil. I hope it turns out for you!

    6. Is there a substitute for Cocoa Butter?

This Lip Balm looks amazing! <33

        1. Thanks it worked with Shea butter <33

Totally making this again when I run out 🙂
