Enjoy this homemade fall and winter treat for breakfast or dessert. An old-fashioned recipe made with simple ingredients. These donuts are soft, tender and sweet.
Add apple cider to a medium saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes or until the juice is reduced to about 1 ½ cups of liquid. Set aside.
While the apple cider is simmering, preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly coat two donut pans with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, granulated sugar and brown sugar.
Add the milk, vanilla extract and egg. With a hand mixer or stand mixer, blend until combined. Slowly add the apple cider reduction and mix again.
Add batter to a piping bag and evenly fill each donut cavity in the donut pan. Bake for 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool 10 minutes in the pan.
While the donuts cool, stir together 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
Remove the donuts from the pan. Brush with melted butter or margarine and coat with the cinnamon sugar mix.
