These easy southern-style baked beans are a delicious comfort food side dish perfect for BBQs, cookouts and potlucks. Made with bacon, ground beef and beans baked in a savory and sweet sauce for the perfect homemade indulgence.
In a large bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, cans of beans and pork, onion, green pepper, 1 cup brown sugar, ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Set aside.
Lay out the bacon slices on a parchment lined sheet pan.
Mix ½ cup of the brown sugar with ½ teaspoon pepper and sprinkle all over the bacon.
Bake the bacon until it is just cooked and just starting to get crispy. Remove the bacon from the oven.
Put the baked bean mixture into a large oven proof skillet or 9x13 inch baking dish.
Top the baked beans with bacon slices.
Bake for up to 2 hours. Remove from the oven and serve hot.
Notes
The length of baking time depends on how you like your beans. If you like a thicker, stickier bean, then leave it in the oven for 2 or more hours. If you prefer saucier beans, then 1 ½ hours will be good.
