When I first read about Skillet Bacon Jam…..I was intrigued and a bit intimidated that I may not like it. My husband and I are both big fans of Niman Ranch bacon (a main ingredient) so I decided to give it a try. I will admit that when it first arrived, I was even more apprehensive. But then……I slathered it on the organic beef burgers we had on the grill and watched it melt into the meat. The taste of our burgers was absolutely delicious. On Christmas Eve, I made a traditional tourtiere (meat pie) and at the last minute decided to add a tablespoon of Skillet Bacon Jam and it really elevated it to a new level. In fact several of my guests said it was the best tourtiere that they had ever eaten.
So how do they make Skillet Bacon Jam you are wondering? The folks at Skillet Street Food make it by taking a “big bunch of really, really good bacon and render it down….add a bunch of spices…onions etc. and let it simmer for about 6 hours..give it a quick puree, blast chill it and…you have bacon jam.”
I admit that I was initially a skeptic about Skillet Bacon Jam but now I am a fan and keep thinking up new ideas to use it on in my everyday cooking. It is delicious!
