Peanut Pie

Peanut pie is a delicious Southern dessert with a sweet filling topped with toasted peanuts. It’s sometimes called a “poor man’s pecan pie,” but this delightful treat is anything but disappointing!

The shell is perfectly buttery, and the filling is rich, sweet, and tastes just like butter tarts!

Honestly, it’s so caramel-like that you’ll shovel in slice after slice.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the crunchy topping of toasted peanuts. It gives every bite a delectable crunch that works perfectly with the smooth and indulgent filling.

What to Serve with Peanut Pie

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • If you’re making your own pie crust, keep all the key ingredients cold to avoid your dough spreading in the oven.
    • Make sure the filling is entirely smooth before spreading it into your pie. This gives you a glorious contrast with the crunchy topping!
    • Keeping your butter at room temperature before adding it to the mix is good, making it far easier to combine with your other ingredients. Using unsalted butter is also better for this recipe, as you’ll add salt later!

    Variations and Substitutions

    • Consider throwing in chocolate sauce or using an Oreo cookie base to add richness to your pie. This will complement the peanut filling and give you a new take on a classic recipe!
    • If you’re a peanut butter and jelly fan, you can mix some jam with your whipped cream for a hint of fruity flavor.
    • I love using fresh whipped cream, but don’t be afraid to use the can of whipped cream if you’re short on time. Just be warned that it’ll be slightly sweeter than anything made fresh!
    • If you’re serving this dish for kids, it’s worth putting chunks of Snickers or Reese’s on the sides of their plates for a bit of fun!
    • Although you can use regular peanuts, honey-roasted or dry-roasted peanuts tend to offer a greater depth of flavor.

    Storage Instructions

You can keep your peanut pie in a covered pie dish for approximately 3 days. But if you want it to last longer, it’s worth popping it in the fridge, where it should stay edible for longer.

If you start to notice any texture changes, it’s time to throw it out.

    Can I Freeze?

If you want to make your peanut pie last longer, place it in the freezer until it’s completely solid.

Then, you can wrap the pie in a few layers of plastic wrap and a layer of foil. Just as a heads up, cutting the pie into slices is best to save space.

This recipe should be good in the freezer for up to 3 months.

When it’s time to eat your pie, take it out of the freezer and let it come to room temperature before topping it.

    1. You keep referring to the peanut topping but the recipe only has you layer them on the bottom. Are we supposed to add more on top so they’ll get crunchy?

    2. The filling never set and all I have is a very soupy pie . (I tasted it though and it would have been delicious

    3. I love peanuts! This pie looks so delicious and perfect for the weekend!
