Keeping my daughter, Bridget, busy on weeknights during the school year is a no-brainer. She has homework and her horseback riding lessons and that usually takes up most of the evening. During March Break is another story. I don’t want her sitting in front of the TV or computer all week so I have to come up with ways to keep her occupied and entertained. I’m sure you’ve heard the dreaded, “I’m bored!” or “There is nothing to do!”. If it were me, I’d take a nap, but I don’t think that would go over to well with Bridget.
Keeping kids busy during March Break isn’t rocket science – you just have to brainstorm a little and come up with ways to battle the boredom. I’ve already started a list of fun activities you can try with your kids this March Break, too!
1. Get outdoors. If the weather cooperates, take your kids to a local park or playground. They can get some fresh air for a couple hours and tire themselves out. Hopefully, it will help them sleep better!
2. Visit a local museum. Take a tour of a museum in your area so your kids can learn some local history. Our local museum usually has fun activities planned for March Break since they know parents are looking for stuff to keep kids busy.
3. Participate in family skating. Our local rink holds family skates during the holiday. It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise and burn off some energy.
4. Horseback riding. The barn where Bridget horseback rides hosts riding lessons for kids. Who knows – maybe your child will fall in love with horses like my daughter has?
5. Bake cookies. One of my favourite ways to pass the time is baking goodies in the kitchen. My daughter loves to be a helper and we have fun whipping up delicious treats for the family to enjoy.
6. Put them to work. If your kids are older, give them some chores to do around the house and then pay them for their help. It teaches them the value of money and housekeeping skills.
7. Play board games. Host a family games day where you spend a few hours playing board games. We usually plan save this idea for a rainy (or snowy) day!
8. Play games on your mobile phone. Search the app store and find kid-friendly games for your child to play. It will keep them busy for hours so you can get a few things done around the house. My daughter got her first cell phone this past Christmas. She loves playing games, listening to music, watching videos and talking to her friends.
If you’re thinking of getting a new cell phone for yourself or your child, I recommend checking out The Mobile Shop. You can quickly stop in while you shop at select stores where PC products are sold, so you don’t even have to make a special trip. They have a large selection of mobile devices and carriers to choose from so you can find the phone that best suits your needs.
I’d love to hear how you plan to keep your kids busy on March Break. I’m always looking for new ideas!

These are all great ideas to keep small hands and minds out of trouble on a school break. I will have to remember these when I watch my nieces and nephews.

I would love to bake cookies with my kids. They love to cook and I think that would be perfect for this chilly weather.

These are really great ideas to keep kids busy over the March Break. We love playing board games so that is totally one suggestion that we will use. I also like the idea of giving them chores to complete. They can certainly help out! Have a fantastic March Break!

These are some fun tips for the family! I will definitely pass this helpful list along. My son is older now but maybe he would still enjoy reliving some good times from his kid days.
