Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup is one of the most popular recipes you can make all year long. Hearty celery, onion, carrots, tender thyme, juicy fresh farm raised chicken and perfect pasta make this soup irresistible.
This homemade Chicken Noodle Soup was my mother’s recipe that I’ve loved and enjoyed making over the years. It’s so simple and full of so much flavor. It’s the epitome of comfort food.
Making homemade soup on the stove can be an all day affair but once you get that first pipping hot spoonful, it all becomes oh-so-worth it! I enjoy making so many soups, a few other favorites are Rosemary Chicken Noodle Soup, Keto Zuppa Toscana, and Tomato Florentine Soup.

This post was sponsored by Chicken Farmers of Canada where I participated in a 7 day a week challenge using 2 whole chickens to feed my family. It was a fun way to challenge myself to create new recipes using chicken meat all week.
Chicken is such a versatile type of meat. It can go in so many dishes. Some of the recipes I ended up using all the chicken in were: Easy Baked Salsa Chicken, Honey Dijon Chicken, Creamy Garlic Chicken with Noodles, and Spanish Chicken.

- I used a sweet onion but you can use whatever onion you prefer, a white, yellow, or Vidalia onion also all work for this soup recipe.
How to Store Homemade Soup
Any of your leftover Chicken Noodle Soup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. This recipe makes a large amount of soup and is great for using leftovers as other meals, perfect for meal planning.
Can You Freeze This Soup
You sure can freeze this Homemade Chicken Soup recipe. As I said, this soup makes a ton and is great for leftovers, so why not freeze those leftovers to last even longer.
Simply, let your homemade soup cool completely before placing it in a ziplock bag and laying flat in the freezer to freeze flatly. Be sure to leave a little room in the bag for expansion. Storing your soup in a freezer safe bag and laying it flat helps save storage in your freezer!
To thaw your soup, all you have to do is remove it from the freezer and put it in the fridge. I prefer to do this overnight so it has plenty of time to thaw.
To reheat your Chicken Soup, just dump it in a sauce pan and reheat it right on the stovetop just how you made it the first time around. You can also reheat leftover soup in the microwave. I recommend microwaving in intervals so you can stir it up as it reheats.
What Other Herbs Can You Add In

- More thyme
- Parsley
- Bay leavesOregano
- Italian Seasoning
- White Pepper (if looking for more heat)
