I’d like to welcome Kristy Kiernan to my blog today. Kristy is the author of the book, Between Friends. Enjoy her post!
I know that I’m here today to introduce myself and my new novel to you, but before I do that, may I just tell you how tickled I am to be a guest on a blog with Sensual Massage products on one sidebar and Buttocks Paste on the other? I love the diversity…though I suppose both are skin soothing.
I love learning about different things in unexpected places. I follow one link, it brings me to something fascinating, I follow another link I find there, and before you know it I’ve gone from Buttocks Paste to the lyrics of the Avett Brothers’ new song. The internet has allowed us access to so much information about all kinds of things we might have never even considered before, and the research possibilities are endless.
All of my books have involved a hefty amount of research, and my new one was no different.
A provocative new novel about birth, death, and the stuff in between, from the award-winning author of Catching Genius.
Thanks to modern reproductive technology-and the gift of her friend Cora’s eggs-Ali Gutierrez is the mother of a fourteen-year-old daughter. Now, yearning for a second child, Ali asks Cora’s permission to use another of the frozen embryos that have been stored away in anticipation of this decision. But Cora has a secret that could not only change Ali’s plans for the future, but tear apart her life right now.
Between Friends isn’t just about women’s friendships, and it isn’t just about egg donation, it’s also about marriage, and parenthood, and organ donation, and about fifty other things I had to sniff out all the particulars about.
And I found that after my first book, Catching Genius, came out, readers wanted to know how a writer knows the things they’ve written about. And now I use my own website to help those readers learn more about the things in my books.
For Catching Genius, I have links to math and music sites, as well as links to some of the places in Florida that inspired me.
For Matters of Faith, I’ve provided links to food allergy sites, links to information about a group of painters I reference in the book, The Florida Highwaymen, as well as more Florida location information.
And for Between Friends, I’ve posted the websites that helped me learn about in-vitro fertilization, dialysis, polycystic kidney disease, and organ donation.
Just as I enjoyed finding out about Buttocks Paste (who knew?!), I enjoyed my research for Between Friends. One thing led to another, and another, and another… all those seemingly disparate crumbs leading to a, well, maybe not a house made of candy, but certainly a novel that is the richer for the time spent, more fully rounded than it would have been had I only research books to rely on.
So, follow the links, you’ll find amazing things out there. And if you find something amazing from any of the links on my website, be sure to let me know.
Even better, if you love Between Friends, let me know.
