Did you know that September is self-improvement month? With the girls now back at school, I’ve been finally tackling small projects around the house that I had been procrastinating about. I’m also working on my physical health by starting a new fitness routine. One thing that we often overlook is our mental health. For me, I’m a huge worrywart and am always coming up with catastrophic what-if situations in my head. I’m working on thinking more positive, but I’m also being realistic.
One area of my life that used to cause me a lot of stress and worry was my finances. I’m sure many of you can relate. I’ve been a victim of identity theft in the past so know how awful it feels to be taken advantage of. It’s so important to stay on top of your financial health as well which also plays into your mental health. Keeping a pulse on your finances and credit health is imperative to reducing your stress and worries. I know I feel much better knowing where I stand at all times. There was a time a few years ago that I barely checked my bank accounts and had no clue how much money I had at any given time.
Thankfully LifeLock can help! Their new LifeLock Ultimate Plus program has several new activity alerts that can help you in today’s digitally connected world. Here are a few relevant examples.
Reduced Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers. Do you get annoyed with those pre-approved credit card offers you receive in the mail? I shred them right away, but I dislike even receiving them. I figure if I want another credit card, I will seek one out. LifeLock protection reduces the amount of these offers you will receive in your mailbox.
Notifications of Data Breaches. I’m always hearing on the news about new data breaches. Then I try to think back to see if I shopped at the store during the affected time period. And worry sets in. LifeLock notifies you about these breaches so you’ll receive the information first hand from a credible source.
Monitoring bank and credit card accounts. Do you check your bank account and credit cards daily for unauthorized purchases? LifeLock monitors your accounts and protects your information. If there is suspicious activity, you are notified right away. I remember in college our auditing professor telling us about a lady who didn’t check her bank account for six months and during that time, someone was withdrawing $500 a day from her account. She didn’t know for SIX WHOLE MONTHS?! I remember thinking how is that even possible? She obviously didn’t have LifeLock protection.
File Sharing Network Searches Protection. I didn’t realize that music file sharing and downloading videos could open up a hole into my computer for identity thieves to exploit! They can get in and see everything on your hard drive like your tax information, banking and investment documents, passwords, photos and more. Scary stuff. It’s good to know that LifeLock offers this type of protection in their Ultimate Plus plan.
