Jillian Hessel is a new favourite of mine and is someone I admire. I feel so fortunate to have been able to try out her HomeBody DVD because its a workout that is exactly what I need! I have been diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain and my muscles are shot from being in pain and very weak. My physiotherpist was always telling me that I need to strengthen my core because this will make me stronger and strong muscles can take more stress than weak ones. If I get under any bit of stress, my muscles automatically tense up and the pain hits. I tried working on strengthening my core before on my own, but could never stay motivated to do it every day. Its funny because it seems like HomeBody with Jillian Hessel was made for people like me who prefer a slower, more relaxed pace. Even Jillian’s voice is soothing!
Jillian Hessel is a certified Health and Fitness Instructor and a former professional dancer. She has created a fusion of yoga, dance and Pilates with her HomeBody DVD that will stretch, tone and strengthen your core and improve your posture. I like that you aren’t required to have any special equipment to do the DVD. Jillian tells you to find household items like cans, ketchup bottles, kitchen chairs and even your couch pillows to use during your workout.
This 60 minute DVD is divided into four parts:
Part 1- Standing Dance Warm-up– Gets the heart rate up, warms and limbers the entire body, and tones the arms using props found at home.
Part 2- Chair Workout– Chair squats, triceps dips, pelvic lifts, spine twist, a special neckÂ & shoulder tension taming section, plus more arms work!
Part 3- Mat Sequence– Challenging Pilates floor work session. Great for the abs, back, and waist. Includes a special section focusing on toning hipsÂ & thighs.
Part 4- Rising to Stand and Finish– Works on balance and coordination to integrate the core work from the mat sequence into your new improved standing posture.
Bonus Personal Trainer Tutorial– Unique 12-minute add-on featuring Master Teacher Jillian Hessel offering individualized tips on posture and the exercises included in HomeBody, designed to enhance your understanding and execution of the workout.
The great thing about it being divided into different segments is that you can choose to just do one segment if you don’t have time to do them all.
Jillian moves with such grace and ease. You can really tell she has a dance background because she moves so flawlessly. I am sure I don’t look nearly as graceful as she does, but since I am in the comfort of my home, who cares? She is the first person I have ever watched on a workout video to do it in her sock feet! I thought that was neat!
As I was saying, this is a workout that I need. I am at a beginner level so I appreciated that it wasn’t a bunch of heavy cardio or aerobics. The exercises were slow, deliberate moves that I could feel working my weak muscles. I was sore afterwards as to be expected, but it was a good pain so I didn’t mind. I look forward to having my muscles lengthened and strong and for my pain levels to drop.
HomeBody with Jillian Hessel is a wonderful workout DVD for beginners like me or people looking to tone or strengthen their muscles. Highly recommended!
