Title: Mom and Me Cookbook
Author: Annabel Karmel
I am really just now learning to cook. Growing up, my mom did all of the cooking for our household. I suppose it was just easier for her than to have her four children in her way in the kitchen. My husband, on the other hand, was able to learn his way around a kitchen alongside his parents and grandparents. Now he is teaching me, and we hope to be able to teach our children together in the future.
I think that cooking easy recipes with kids is a great way for them to learn and play. The sensory stimulation from all the different textures of the food and tools is great for their brains, there is math in measuring ingredients, and spending time with parents is just plain fun!
Mom & Me is a cookbook that combines all of the above for a kid- (and mom-) friendly recipe for good times and memories in the kitchen. It is easy to follow, has bright colors and fun pictures of kids performing all of the steps, and the food is simple, delicious, and good for little and big people alike. Honestly, for someone like me who is not so comfortable in the kitchen, the, “Things you will need” section was really helpful (have you ever started a recipe to find halfway through that you don’t have the right pan? ugh!), as was the, “Things you will do,” section of each recipe.
There are bright, kid-friendly graphics for your little helpers to know what steps to get help from a grown-up and exactly what they need to do. You’ll find entrees, snacks, and desserts that are easy to make, wholesome, and have a fun twist, like the dip that looks like a fish!
I am borrowing my friends’ 4-year-old daughter E and making the 2-in-one homemade pizzas on page 16. She is going to love to knead the dough and make little pizza character faces. I am just going to have to explain to her dad why she’s playing with her food! She’s the perfect kid for this type of book. She loves to help out, but she can be a tough cookie when it comes time to actually eat her food. Making it fun will make her more likely to eat it all up!
The book is perfect for families with children ages 3 and up and can only be purchased online at Amazon.com
