Little Girls Can Be Mean by Michelle Anthony PH.D and Reyna Lindert PH.D offers a glimpse inside the world of social challenges faced by our young girls. As the mother of a four year old daughter, I admit that I am scared for the road she will take as she matures into womanhood. I also acknowledge that I am not really sure exactly how to guide her either…..when I was growing up there was an occasional “mean girl” but it certainly was not the norm. Bullying, peer pressure and social cliques are putting more and more pressure on modern girls. I appreciate that Little Girls Can Be Mean provides strategies and tools that are easy for any parent to use to help your daughter grow up confident, happier and have the ability to deal with difficult social situations. Even though I have chosen to home school my children, that will not protect my daughter from peer bullying in the many other social environments she is engaged in on a regular basis. The premise of Little Girls Can Be Mean is to offer a four step plan to “bully proof” your daughter including “observe, connect, guide and support to act”. This a good read for all parents and teachers, especially those who are connected to children in the elementary school years.
