This overnight Baked French Toast is easy to make, perfect for a crowd, and completely delicious!
French Toast can be labor-intensive to make, but with this recipe it is easy-as-can-be! You’ll soak the bread overnight, then layer it in a pan and bake it in the oven. That’s it! No messy splatter needed.
Oven French Toast Ingredients
- Baguette: A crusty baguette makes for the best French toast! You’ll want to cut it into thick slices for best results.
- Eggs + Milk: Eggs and milk form a custard base that makes the French toast so creamy. Feel free to use non-dairy milk like almond milk if preferred!
- Spices: To give the French toast more flavor, you’ll use a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Butter: Just a little butter to grease your baking sheet with will give you that lovely crispy crust!

How To Make Overnight French Toast
- Prep the baguette slices. Place baguette slices at the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan.
- Whisk the wet ingredients. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and spices.
- Pour the mixture over the slices. Pour the wet mixture over the slices and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 6 hours.
- Preheat the oven. Preheat the oven and grease a baking sheet with butter.
- Bake the French toast. Place the French toast on the baking sheet, then bake for 8 minutes. Remove from the oven, brush with butter, flip, and bake again.
What kind of bread is best for French toast?
I prefer a baguette for baked French toast. The crunchy crust and thick slices are sturdy enough to prevent the bread from getting too soggy.
Why is my baked French toast soggy?
If your French toast is soggy, it may be because you soaked it for too long (I’d recommend putting it in to soak right before you go to bed) or because your bread was too thin. Bake it for a few extra minutes until the edges really get a chance to crisp up!

- 1 baguette, cut into ½ to ¾ inch slices
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk OR Almond Fresh Unsweetened almond milk
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Place baguette slices at the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract and salt.
- Pour the mixture over the slices. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 450°F. Grease a baking sheet with butter and place the slices evenly spaced out on it.
- Bake for 8 minutes and then remove from oven. Brush the top of the slices with melted butter and then turn the slices over. Place back in the oven for another 6 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve hot topped with fresh fruit and/or maple syrup.
