When my three year old son was hospitalized in a burn unit out of state for an extended period of time it was such a fearful time for him and his two young siblings. I wish we had been able to read the Hospital Critterz® series together when he was in the hospital because this wonderful series is such an excellent way to help children be less fearful of doctor visits and/or hospital stays. The Prairie Pet by Stacey Laura Lloyd was a fun ride that is packed with adventures and an interesting story line. The series targets children ages 7-12 but my own children ages 3, 4 and 6 really liked it as a read-aloud. In fact, Jacob even commented that this story was “just like when I was in the hospital…but more fun.” The quirky illustrations by Steve Loizos are charming and delightful and I really like the courageous and lovable cast of characters. My older son really enjoyed trying to solve the riddles within the interactive story line. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the first book in the Hospital Critterz® series and I definitely look forward to reading more titles with my children. This book series would be perfect for children of all ages both healthy and ill and would make a wonderful present for a young person who may be undergoing a hospital stay.
You are invited to visit the Hospital Critterz® website to learn more about this wonderful children’s book series or to purchase book 1, The Prairie Pet (SRP $6.96).
