30 Day Cleaning Challenge

The new year symbolizes a fresh start. Many of us take on New Year’s resolutions to eat better, learn a new skill or adopt a more positive attitude. For me, I use this time of new beginnings to get organized. It all starts at home. Getting my house in tip top shape is a priority for me every year. It’s like that old saying goes, “Out with the old and in with the new”. I look forward to this time of year after the holiday bustle.

The best way to get your home on track is to take a 30 Day Cleaning Challenge. You need to start with a plan of action. I find if you plan ahead, you’ll be more likely to be successful and complete what you started. Don’t worry, I’ve got a system in place for you that is going to help you a TON. Take my 30 Day Cleaning Challenge and your home will be much more clean and organized.

30 Day Cleaning Challenge

To get started, you’ll only need a few items: a piece of white bristol board, Scotch™ Brand Magic Tape, Rio De Janeiro Post-it® Notes and a pen.

I love using Post-it® Notes for all my organizing projects. Plus, they are brightly coloured so they catch your eye giving you a visual reminder of the challenge. Rio De Janeiro Post-it® Notes have five different colours, but you could use any style of Post-it® Notes that you have on hand.

The way it works is you’ll write a different cleaning/organizing task on a Post-it® Note until you have 30 in total. Each Post-it® Note will represent one day’s work.

Then arrange your Post-it® Notes on your bristol board. I did six columns of five tasks.

Whew! I know it seems like quite the list, but remember, you are only tackling one task per day. In 30 days, think of how much better your home will feel with everything clean and in its place.

You don’t have to put them in the same order as me. In fact, you could just randomly choose a Post-it® Note and perform the task on it depending on how much time you have that particular day. Some of the tasks will be less labour intensive than others. For instance, it won’t take you much time to wash a shower curtain as it would to clean your entire pantry.

Once you have your board ready, put it up in a central location affixed to the wall with Scotch™ Brand Magic Tape. I put mine in the kitchen, the heart of our home. I know it’s going to feel so satisfying to remove those Post-it® Notes each day as the cleaning is completed.

The reason I recommend putting it somewhere central is so that it will be a visual reminder of what’s left on your plate (plus, how far you’ve come!). Just think about how wonderful it is going to feel once you’ve tackled all these cleaning tasks and your home is spic and span and new year ready!
