Why I Never Want to Run Out of Ink Again
“Mom, the printer is broken and my report is due tomorrow morning!”.
We had a small crisis here a few weeks ago. My oldest daughter, Olivia, procrastinated about her homework and left it to the very last minute. It was 8pm Sunday night and the report was due first thing Monday morning. She was diligently working on it almost all day and then when she went to print it out, she couldn’t. There was no ink.
I searched my office for an ink cartridge and discovered I was completely out. That’s not good because I rely on the printer too for my home-based business. I told my daughter that I’d run to the store tomorrow because all the stores were closed.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t good enough for her. She needed to print TONIGHT or she’d fail her class. I don’t know if she was being overly dramatic, but I hated to see her so upset. It was like the world was ending or something!

I felt bad because it was my fault. I normally stock up on ink, but life got busy and I forgot. That’s life though and I’m only human. Still, it didn’t help solve my daughter’s dilemma and I had to do something about it.
I posted on my Facebook profile asking friends and family if they had a printer Olivia could use. Thankfully, my cousin came to the rescue and said we could use hers. We drove across town with Olivia’s flash drive and she printed her report out there. She was able to submit her assignment on time and was grateful to have it off her plate.
The stress of her meltdown still haunts me and I knew I had to avoid a situation like this in the future. We go through a lot of ink in our home with school work and my own blogging business. I also use it for my organizational printables for my household binder. Running out of ink isn’t cool and I’m sure there had to be a better way than just relying on my memory.
I found a solution that will work perfectly for our family and prevent future incidents like this one. HP Instant Ink is a monthly subscription service from HP Canada that works on Instant Ink enabled printers like the Desk Jet 3755 Printer. The printer knows when it’s running low and will order ink automatically BEFORE you run out. How cool is that?! No more relying on my faulty memory. I like it.
They have three plans to choose starting at $3.99/month and are based on how much you print.
Hindsight is 20/20 and I know we could have used the HP Instant Ink subscription that stressful Sunday evening. I don’t want to go through an incident like that again!
Have you ever run out of ink when you needed to print something important?
