Canadians Meet The Saucy Fish Co.
If you’ve been recently grocery shopping at any of the Loblaws brand stores, you may have noticed something different in the freezer/seafood section. Meet The Saucy Fish Co. and its range of mouthwatering fish products. They come our way from United Kingdom and I’m super excited about their launch in Canada. Once you try the products, I think you’ll also be glad they made the journey across the pond. They are delicious, convenient and an excellent way to add more fish to your family’s diet.
The Saucy Fish Co. Fish and Sauce
The Saucy Fish Co. has four fish and sauce selections to choose from. They include:
- Lemon Butter Sauce sensational with Herb Crusted Atlantic Salmon
- Chili, Lime and Ginger Dressing superb with Atlantic Salmon
- Aged Cheddar and Chive Sauce smashing with Smoked Haddock
- Salsa Verde tremendous with Tilapia
Each item comes frozen with two pieces of fish plus sauce. Look for them in the freezer seafood section at your Loblaws brand stores.
Making their fish is quick and easy. I love that I bake them right from a frozen state and don’t need to wait hours for it to thaw. I’m often deciding at the last minute what to make for dinner. Thawing food just isn’t happening most nights so I appreciate the convenience here!
The directions are right on the back of the package. Basically, you place the frozen fish in the bag that is included in your package. Seal it up and place it on a baking tray to go in the oven. Depending on which variety you choose, they bake from 23 to 28 minutes right in the bag.
Another big bonus is that there is no mess! The fish bakes entirely in the bag so all the juices stay inside and your baking sheet is clean.
When the baking time is up, simply remove it from the oven and let it sit for a minute. Then carefully cut open your bag to remove the fish. Careful – the steam is hot! It smells SO GOOD!
While your fish is baking in the oven, you can quickly get the sauce ready. I love that it comes with the sauce so I don’t have to make my own. Remember, it’s also frozen, but it quickly thaws in a pot of water on the stove. The sauce can also be eaten cold if you prefer. My preference is hot though so that’s how I made mine. Add a few favourite sides like salad, vegetables or potatoes and dinner is served in a flash.
I tried all four varieties and am hard pressed to pick a favourite. Even John who isn’t a huge fish fan enjoyed them. I think it’s better than any fish I’ve ever eaten at any restaurant.
I wanted to show you what each one looked baked and plated. Here is the Aged Cheddar & Chive Sauce smashing with Smoked Haddock. It was baked to perfection, tender and flaky with a creamy, smooth savoury sauce.
I love that they provide a generous portion of sauce so you have more than enough to use with the two portions in the package.
The Lemon Butter Sauce sensational with Herb Crusted Atlantic Salmon was a tie for my favourite. Salmon is my favourite type of fish to eat and it tasted amazing paired with this rich and creamy sauce.
Salsa Verde tremendous with Tilapia tastes fresh and fabulous. The sauce adds a nice Latin inspired flair!
Lastly, the Chili, Lime & Ginger Dressing superb with Atlantic Salmon was tied with the other salmon for my favourite. The sauce is sweet with a bit of spice and pairs perfectly with the moist, flavourful salmon fillet.
Each packages comes with two fillets. If you are feeding a family, I recommend buying several packages so everyone can have their own fillet. Plus, you’ll have lots of extra yummy sauce to drizzle on top!
The Saucy Fish Co. Ready to Eat
The Ready to Eat selections are brand new to Canadian stores as of just a couple days ago! And talk about convenience. Just open the package and eat. Think healthy food fast. I ate mine on my own for a quick protein-packed lunch. You could also use it in your recipes – it pairs well with rice, pasta or salad.
Look for the following varieties:
- Sticky Maple sauce sensation with smoked and roasted Atlantic Salmon fillets
- Tomato and Chili Chutney tremendous with Roasted Sweet Chili Atlantic Salmon fillets
- Sicilian Lemon & Dill Mayo magnificent with Roasted Lemon and Herb Atlantic Salmon.
They can be served hot or cold.
I added the Tomato and Chili Chutney tremendous with Roasted Sweet Chili Atlantic Salmon to a garden salad. I loaded on that luscious savoury sauce. I’m craving another salad like that one for lunch!
The Saucy Fish Co. gets it right in my books. The sauces and fish are perfect pairs and will add some delicious excitement to boring weeknight meals. Dinner is served in less than 30 minutes.
