Household Uses for Dryer Sheets
To make dryer sheets last longer, cut them in half or even into quarters before using them in the dryer. In most cases, even 1/4 of a sheet will freshen clothes and prevent static cling just as much as a whole sheet would. Plus, you’re going to be saving a ton of money doing it this way!
Besides using dryer sheets in the, well, dryer… there are many ways to use them around the house. I remember a friend of mine telling me years ago how he uses dryer sheets all over the house. I must have given him a weird look and he went on to explain how he uses them. That was the first time I realized that they have many, many uses!
Here are some of my favourites:
Stick a dryer sheet in your gym bag to make it smell less like stink and more like freshness!
You can deodorize smelly shoes in the same way. Simply sneak 1/2 a sheet (or a whole sheet for super stinky feet) into the tennis shoes. I just leave the sheet in there when the shoes aren’t being worn, but you’ll need to put a new one in every few days if you’re going for optimal freshness.
Place one dryer sheet in the vent, so when the A/C kicks on, you’ll get a burst of freshness with each cycle!
Clean paint brushes by soaking used brushes in some warm water with a dryer sheet. They only need to soak for a minute or two, and they’ll be ready to rinse off. If the paint is really stubborn, you can use actual fabric softener in the water instead.
The paint brush trick also works with dishes that have stuck on food and grime. Instead of soaking in just soapy water, add a dryer sheet and let it sit for a few minutes. The stuck on gunk and goo will wipe off so easily!
Polish your chrome sink faucets, shower head, etc with a fresh dryer sheet. I didn’t believe this one until I tried it!
Use dryer sheets for dusting pretty much anything: ceiling fans, baseboards, blinds, and even furniture.
Keep bugs away by placing a dryer sheet under your chair while you’re outside.
Wipe down computer monitors and television screens with a dryer sheet to remove static cling. This also works on clothes!
