Title: Who Do You Love: A Novel
Author: Jennifer Weiner
About the Book
An unforgettable story about true love, real life, and second chances…
Rachel Blum and Andy Landis are just eight years old when they meet one night in an ER waiting room. Born with a congenital heart defect, Rachel is a veteran of hospitals, and she’s intrigued by the boy who shows up alone with a broken arm. He tells her his name. She tells him a story. After Andy’s taken back to a doctor and Rachel’s sent back to her bed, they think they’ll never see each other again.
Rachel grows up in an affluent Florida suburb, the popular and protected daughter of two doting parents. Andy grows up poor in Philadelphia with a single mom and a rare talent for running.
Yet, over the next three decades, Andy and Rachel will meet again and again—linked by chance, history, and the memory of the first time they met, a night that changed the course of both of their lives.
A sweeping, warmhearted, and intimate tale, Who Do You Love is an extraordinary novel about the passage of time, the way people change and change each other, and how the measure of a life is who you love.
Jennifer Weiner is one of my all-time favourite authors and her newest book, Who Do You Love does not disappoint! It’s the story of Andy and Rachel that spans over 30 years and is told in both perspectives with Rachel in the first person and Andy in the third.
Both characters felt so real to me. They weren’t perfect and had their flaws, but that made them more endearing. There were parts of the book where I wanted to slap them both and ask them what are they doing! People make mistakes and these characters are no different.
It took me a little longer than usual to get into the book, but once I did, I was hooked. I read the last half of the book in two sittings. I needed to know how it would turn out and hoped for one specific outcome.
This book captures my perception of a soul mate. Andy and Rachel have such a strong connection, but it makes you wonder is that enough? Circumstances change and life happens and I was asking myself, would that change how Andy and Rachel felt? I was glad to see closure at the end of the novel and it wasn’t one that left me hanging.
Who Do You Love is gripping and emotional. Prepare to shed some tears and maybe want to throw something! Jennifer Weiner is a talented storyteller to be able to elicit such a strong response.
