Fun with the Instax Share SP-1 Wireless Printer

The Instax Share SP-1 wireless printer is a new product from Fujifilm, yet it has a retro feel. In the age of digital cameras and smartphones, we don’t often get physical copies of our photos anymore. Though I love my camera and phone, I do sometimes miss having physical photos to put in my albums and scrapbooks, or even sticking on the fridge with a magnet. With the Instax Share SP-1, I can easily print my favourite shots quickly and easily. I’ve gone a little photo crazy printing out a variety of shots from both my phone and my Fujifilm X-A2. I’m like a kid with a new toy!

My 17-year old daughter, Olivia, freaked out when she saw the Instax Share SP-1 on our counter. I guess she had heard about them and wanted one desperately. I told her we would have to share, but I’m not sure how well it’s working out.

She keeps it in her room and has already covered her wall in Instax photos!

The Instax Share SP-1 works with your smartphone, tablet or some Fujifilm cameras. I have the Fujifilm X-A2 and an iPhone 6 Plus and I’ve used the printer with both devices. I downloaded the Instax share app on iTunes. They also have an Android app.

Your smartphone connects to the printer wirelessly and then it’s just a matter of going into the app to select and customize your photos to print. You have a few options – take a picture, use a real time template (it shows date, time, location, temperature on the photo), choose from existing photos or choose a photo from Facebook or Instagram.

Plus, you can edit the photo right in the app. Change the orientation, brighten up the colour using the Fujifilm Intelligence Filter or make the photo black and white or sepia. If you want to share a framed photo you printed on social media (Facebook or Twitter), you can do that too in the app.

Need to make more than one copy? Easy peasy. Just hit reprint and the last photo printed will print out again.

The template options are neat. Add text, colour and more to personalize your photos. The seasonal templates will be handy for Christmas. It would be neat to take a photo of your family and then customize it with one of the holiday templates for a unique Christmas card. You can sign everyone’s names on the photo too.

You’ll need to use Fujifilm “instax mini” Instant Color Film as well. Each pack is 10 prints.

I printed out a few recipe photos for a project I had in mind plus some shots of my girls for my fridge. It was neat to watch them develop right before my eyes.

My latest DIY project is recipe cards. Take a photo of the dish on your smartphone and print on the Instax Share SP-1. I taped the photos to index cards and wrote out the recipe. The photos are about the size of a credit card so they easily fit. Keep them for your own recipe collection or share with a friend. I’m giving these ones to Olivia to keep.

If you travel, the Instax Share SP-1 is small and compact enough to go with you if you like. Create a travel journal of your adventure!

Buy the Instax Share SP-1 at a variety of retailers for an SRP of $199.99.
