paid disclosure-1

Today my baby girl turns 17. It doesn’t seem that long ago that she was born. This coming year will be her last year of high school. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. She’s been thinking about her post-secondary education and deciding what path she wants to take. I know it will be expensive. I’m grateful that I had the forethought to start an Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) for her when she was born. It will ease some of the financial burden.

I recently learned that the Government of Canada has increased the Universal Child Care Benefit for all children ages 17 and under. Children under age 6 will now receive $160/month ($1,920 per year) and children between the ages of 6 and 17 will receive $60/month ($720 per year). In July, Canadians will receive a lump-sum payment for all the payments from January to July.

Consider putting that money away into an RESP to save for your children’s education. Visit TD to find out about RESP, government grants and more.
