10 Ways to Clean with Vinegar - smart ways to clean your home safe and effectively!

Ways to Clean with Vinegar

1. Freshen up the fridge. Wash every surface, inside and out of your refrigerator with equal parts of white vinegar and warm water. As an added step to combat mildew and odours, wipe the clean fridge walls with a clean cloth wet with full-strength vinegar.

2. Disinfect cutting boards. The acids in vinegar keep harmful germs away. Wipe wooden and plastic cutting boards with full-strength white vinegar after each use to keep them clean. Sprinkle some baking soda on the board before using the vinegar to help deodorize while cleaning.

3. Clean the coffeemaker. Weak or bitter coffee can be a sign that your maker needs to be cleaned. Mix two cups vinegar with one cup water and pour into the decanter, letting the solution run through a cycle of your coffeemaker. Rinse by letting clean water cycle through twice, replacing the filter after the second rinse.

4. Sanitize old food jars. You can easily reuse your empty peanut butter and mayonnaise jars once you clean them well with vinegar. Fill the jar halfway with vinegar, adding warm, soapy water to the other half. Let the jar sit for 15 minutes, while the solution works to clean the inside. Tighten the cap and shake well to remove extra food particles. Pour out the liquid and wash thoroughly with soapy water.

5. Clean showerheads. Remove mineral deposits and unclog your showerhead with vinegar so you can enjoy the jets again. Submurge a removable showerhead into a pot of hot water mixed with ½ cup distilled vinegar for 10-15 minutes. For non-removable showerheads, tape a plastic storage bag filled with vinegar around the showerhead and leave it there for one hour.

6. Disinfect the toilet. Before going to bed, pour two cups of full-strength vinegar into your toilet, allowing it to sit overnight. The following morning, flush the vinegar and wash your toilet with your normal products. Do the vinegar routine weekly to have keep your toilet looking and smelling fresh and clean.

7. Brighten your laundry. No need to purchase all-colour bleach or detergent when vinegar does the trick. Toss ½ cup white vinegar to your wash cycle to liven up the colours of your clothing.

8. Remove rust from tools. Clean up your old tools, nuts, and bolts by soaking them in white vinegar for four to five days. Dousing rusted screws and hinges with full-strength vinegar also helps to remove them.

9. Remove pen marks from walls and wooden furniture. Using a clean cloth or sponge, dab the marks with white vinegar, repeating until the pen marks are gone.

10. Unclog the drain. A much better – and more affordable – alternative to store-bought drain cleaners is baking soda and white vinegar. Start by pouring ½ cup baking soda into the drain, following with one cup vinegar. Watch the foam, and once it subsides, flush the drain with hot tap water. Five minutes later, rinse the drain with cold water.

I keep a big bottle of vinegar under my kitchen sink for cleaning purposes. The one in my pantry I use in cooking. I like to keep the two separate. Vinegar isn’t expensive and has so many uses! You’ll want to stock up on it to use around your house!
