Honey Dijon Chicken is a honey dijon based chicken that is juicy and loaded with flavor. A quick and easy weeknight dinner that is great for serving your family or a crowd.

I don’t mind eating plain chicken with no sauce, marinade or rub, but I’m not sure my family would agree. It’s much more fun to dress up your chicken with your favourite flavours.

Honey Dijon Chicken

I think of chicken like my art canvas. I can be daring and bold with ingredients or choose ones that I know work well together.

For the month of June, the theme is #NoNakedChicken! Chicken Farmers of Canada always has such creative campaigns and this is one of my favoruites. The goal here is to cover your chicken up with sauces, marinades, rubs and more. Get it – no naked chicken?

    Baked Honey Dijon Chicken

I’d be here all day listing out ways to dress up your chicken. Chicken Farmers of Canada has loads of recipes on their site if you need a little inspiration. I found one that I wanted to try – Honey Dijon Drumsticks. Instead of using drumsticks, I used chicken breasts because that’s what I had on hand. They tasted divine!

    Marinade For Dijon Chicken

The marinade is flavourful combination of honey, Dijon mustard, oil and paprika. They are savoury with a hint of sweetness from the honey. I love the mouthwatering colour the spices add to the dish.

Serve it with your favourite sides. I paired mine with some wilted spinach cooked in a little olive oil with salt and pepper. Healthy and tasty!

How to Know When Chicken is Done

You will know when your chicken is done when the juices run clear, you use a meat thermometer and the chicken is 165 degrees internal temperature.

Just make sure when you use a meat thermometer you stick in the largest piece of the chicken and you don’t touch a bone if you use bone-in chicken.

How to Make Honey Dijon Chicken

Start by preheating your oven. Then you will want to lay out aluminum foil on your baking sheet. This helps a lot with cleanup.

Now place your chicken breasts on the baking sheet. Grab a bowl and mix up the ingredients for your honey dijon glaze. Brush over the chicken on both sides.

Toss in the oven and bake for 35-45 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked. The full recipe is in the printable recipe card below.

    Could I Use Bone-In Chicken

Yes, you absolutely could. The one thing to remember is bone-in chicken will cook differently so that you will need to adjust the cooking time. Also, make sure to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.

Drumsticks, chicken thighs, all would be great. Depending on the thickness of the chicken will vary on the cooking time.

How Long Can You Store Cooked Chicken

You can store your cooked chicken in the fridge for up to three days. Anything after that you will want to then use your best judgment.

With the leftovers you can reheat in the microwave or cover with aluminum foil and warm in the oven. I have also just sliced up the chicken cold, and then topped a salad with it and it is fantastic that way as well.

Can You Freeze Honey Dijon Chicken

I have not tried freezing this chicken but I would assume it would freeze just fine. Place in an airtight container, freezer bag or vacuum sealed container. Then freeze for up to three months.

Thaw in the fridge the night before you plan to heat it up. You could then choose to reheat in microwave or oven, or eat cold.

You also should try Sweet and Sour Chicken Thighs, Hawaiian Chicken and Honey Garlic Chicken.
