My Review

I’ve had the book, The Maze Runner by James Dashner on my TBR shelf for awhile now. After watching the movie, The Maze Runner, it’s moved its way up to the top of the list. If you were a fan of The Hunger Games, it’s a safe bet that you will also enjoy The Maze Runner. Bridget and I sat down to watch all two hours of the movie and our eyes were glued to the TV screen the whole time!

I didn’t know much about the plot before watching the movie and I made sure to not read any spoilers. The movie begins at a fast pace and keeps on going throughout. Thomas, the main character, is sent up a long shaft in a box to an area called the Glades. He has no idea why he is there and doesn’t even remember his own name right away. The Glades is full of boys who had a similar journey. Every month a new boy was sent up the box into the Glades and they would also receive a replenishment of supplies.

It made me wonder what the heck was this place? Was it a prison? A science experiment? I didn’t know and kept watching to unravel the mystery. The main intrigue was the maze itself that surrounds the Glades. It is a looming, massive and omnious structure. It was creepy to even look at! Thomas right away was drawn to the maze. He makes some foolhardy choices and shows absolutely no fear. Even during the scarier scenes in the movie, I had to wonder is this guy stupid or just extremely courageous?

I was gripping my pillow through some of the more tense scenes in the movie and there are quite a few! Imagine running down a long corridor with the walls closing in on you. That’s definitely what I would call a heartpounding scene! Or how about having a ginormous spider creature after you trying to kill you with his sharp talons and poison your with its venom.

I haven’t read the book so I don’t know how it compares to the movie. However, I really enjoyed watching it and would probably do so again. I also know that there will be a sequel. I can’t wait to watch it and find out what happens to Thomas and his friends!
