Week 6 Update on the Commit to Fit Challenge

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been six weeks since the SUBWAY Canada Commit to Fit challenge began. It’s been an interesting road with some ups and downs, but mostly ups. I think one of the most important things I learned from the experience is that I can make positive changes. I never thought I’d be able to exercise again after developing chronic pain in 2005. I proved myself wrong and I’m happy for that. I showed myself that I can still do light exercise and that is good enough for me!

The challenge for week 6 was goal setting and to map out how I will continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle.  I know I want to continue with walking even in the winter. I got a pair of warm winter boots to keep my feet warm and provide traction on the icy sidewalks. I would like to push myself more in the diet department. I know there are still ways I can improve more like late night eating and drinking more water and less coffee.

My issue was procrastination. I always said that I will start tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and I put it off for the next day. It’s a vicious cycle and I finally realized that I just needed to start. Start somewhere and just do it. My talk with the nutritionist also made me change my perspective. She suggested to think of it as an experiment. I like that idea because it’s less pressure on me.

I’m the curious type and want to see if the changes will make a difference. I know it’s early yet, but I feel like they have. I’m more conscious of the food I’m eating now and do less mindless eating. I’m going to keep going down this road and making small changes here and there and hoping that in the end these small changes will mean a big difference.

In the most recent email from Carl, he ended with a quote that really resonated with me:

The future depends on what you do today ~ Ghandi

I’m looking forward to what is to come and I’m determined to continue on the path I’ve already started on. Wish me luck!
