I drink coffee. I’ve own multiple styles of coffee makers and tried various types of roasts. But do I really know much about coffee itself? Not really. I know I like the taste and I know how to make myself a cup. I wanted to read Coffee Obsession because I do have a strong love for coffee and I am interested in learning more about the beverage I drink multiple times a day.
In Coffee Know-How, I learned how to choose a quality coffee, how to store coffee, grinding tips and even why the type of milk used in your coffee matters. I learned that you shouldn’t store your coffee beans in the fridge and should instead freeze them. I’ve been freezing mine so that is a check mark for me! They also mention NOT re-freezing the coffee beans after they’ve been thawed. Good to know.
Coffees of the World showcases the countries around the world that are coffee producers. I had no idea there were that many! I knew the big ones like Colombia and Kenya, but didn’t realize some of the other countries produced coffee too. I’m now wanting to try Panamanian coffee! It’s described as “sweet and balanced, at times floral and citrus, well-rounded, and easy to drink.”
The next chapter is all about Coffee Equipment and a couple of the items I’d never heard of before like a Cold Dripper and Phin. I knew of an Espresso Machine, French Press, Cloth Brewer and a few of the others.
The latter half of the book is all recipes! There are recipes for hot black coffees, hot white coffees, cold black coffees, ice blends and much more. Learn how to make the classics like Cappuccinos, Caffe Latte, Caffe Mocha,etc. I also saw a recipe for Turkish Coffee. We used to drink that at our neighbour’s home in Edmonton after dinner. I remember it being very strong. I must try the Maple Pecan coffee and Gingerbread Grog. I love that there are so many recipes to try that I’ve never heard of before.
Coffee Obsession has found a home on my coffee table. Makes sense right? This way I can pick it up whenever I sit down for a minute to read more about my favourite hot drink.
