Another First for A&W Announced Today!

The other day I was out for a walk in the neighbourhood and thinking about all the perks of being back in my hometown in Ontario. It’s nice to be close to family and friends again, but it’s also great having access to some of my favourite restaurants. Where we lived before in Nova Scotia was a very rural area and it felt like we had to drive way too far just to go out for a quick meal. Now, I live right in town so the convenience factor is a huge plus. And I’m only five minute drive from one of my favourite fast food restaurants: A&W! How I missed you!

Fast food is great for the times you are in a rush and don’t feel like cooking. I like to give myself the night off from dinner duty from now and then, but also want to make sure that my family is eating good food too. In recent years, I’ve started looking more at the ingredients in my food. Like many Canadians, I want quality ingredients and I do care where they come from.

Which leads me into the big news that was just announced today, October 20, 2014: A&W is the first national quick service restaurant in North America to serve chicken raised without the use of antibiotics!

aw-3

A&W realized that Canadians wanted simple and delicious ingredients that have been farmed with care. In September 2013, they began their ingredients guarantee with the introduction of beef raised without the use of hormones or steroids. Then in September 2014, they introduced eggs from chickens fed only a vegetarian diet without animal by-products into their restaurant menu. Now, you’ll be able to enjoy all three of these firsts at each and every A&W restaurant across Canada. As you can see, A&W is no stranger to being first and is raising the bar when it comes to ingredients, in my opinion!

I also think it’s fantastic that A&W asked what Canadians wanted and then gave them exactly what they asked for. They listened and delivered. For instance, when A&W introduced the beef raised without steroids or the use of hormones on their burger menu, the response from customers was outstanding. There were on to something big and the results of the survey they conducted proved it was the right move to make:

  • Almost 73% of Canadians prefer to consume beef raised without the use of hormones or steroids.
  • 75% of Canadians prefer to consume chicken raised without the use of antibiotics.

The survey results confirmed what A&W knew: the majority of Canadians want high quality ingredients, me included!

I’m a creature of habit, but am ready to change things up. I normally get the Mozza Burger or Teen Burger at A&W, but I’m planning to try the chicken the next time I go. John likes the famous A&W Chubby Chicken burgers so that is one option. They also have wraps, strips and dinners as well. A&W chicken strips and sandwiches also feature 100% real seasoned white chicken breast. I went over the A&W website and had a peek at the menu and now my mouth is watering for one of those delicious looking chicken sandwiches!

No matter which chicken item I choose from the menu, I can count on it being raised without the use of antibiotics. Thank you A&W for listening to Canadians and giving us what we want. What is your favourite item on the A&W menu?
