My boys and I love a lot of the programming on PBS Kids. We even have the PBS Kids app on our iPad so that they can stream episodes of their favorite shows anytime they want. One particular favorite of ours is the show Peg + Cat. We discovered this show a few months ago and we are all addicted to it, so my boys and I were very excited to have the chance to review the first DVD release of the show – “PEG + CAT: CHICKENS ON THE LOOSE AND OTHER REALLY BIG PROBLEMS.”, set for release on September 9th 2014.
Peg + Cat is a really neat math-based adventure show that features Peg and her sidekick Cat as they embark on different problem-solving adventures. This series is aimed at preschoolers and helps kids learn problem solving and foundational math concepts and skills. There’s a really catchy opening theme song that I’ve caught myself singing out loud more than once! My boys love the animation of this show and the cat has such a cool personality (he steals the show for me!). We received the DVD right before embarking on a long trip to New Hampshire to visit family. This DVD saved the day for us as it gave my boys over an hour and a half of fun and learning time in the back seat. When we got home they wanted to watch it again and I was happy to be able to watch along with them. This DVD features eight great episodes that focus on counting skills, shapes, numbers and patterns:
* The Chicken Problem
* The Space Creature Problem
* The Messy Room Problem
* The Golden Pyramid Problem
* The Three Bears Problem
* The Giant Problem
* The Dinosaur Problem
* The Beethoven Problem
This DVD runs approximately 100 minutes and has an SRP of $12.99. The DVD also includes fun extras like printable coloring pages and other activities. Look for it in stores and online starting September 9th!
PEG + CAT is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education through the Ready To Learn Initiative, a program that supports the development of innovative educational television and digital media targeted at preschool and early elementary school children and their families, and by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
